Hello: Not only thank you for serving but for being someone our young children can look up too.  Because of people like you our son joined the Army last June, made Medic, and was just sent to Korea for 2 years.  He says all the time he is greatful for the LDS men who are serving so he has someone to look up to.

Thanx very much for your kind comments.  I hope your son is doing well.  I was fortunate to be able to accomplish much good during my 20+ year career, and especially during the time spent in two war zones.  I returned from this most recent one a different man than the one that left; and regrettably, not a better man in some ways.  I was a part of some things that I will spend the rest of my life trying to forget.  A good Bishop and an understanding and supportive wife has been my lifeline.....  and certainly, the Atonement has been a mainstay.

I do hope your son is doing well, and remains safe.  Please thank him for his service for me.  On a side note, part of my "healing" has been in the form of my service with the Patriot Guard Riders organization.  I am serving as the Idaho State Captain, and we (as a nationwide organization) are very proactive in welcoming home and sending off our current generation of heroes.  When your son comes home, it would be an honor for the PGR in your community to be invited to welcome him home.  When the time comes, I would be happy to assist in the process; otherwise, you can go to www.patriotguard.org, and follow the links to your state's captain.  Contact him/her and make the request (or, as I said, I would be happy to help....)

My thanx again for your taking the time to send me a note.  It was an honor to serve, and remains one of the most fulfilling times of my life....

Shane
