Studied German in high school, but most of the time I only use it for genealogical purposes.

Of course, the scriptures are always No. 1 with us. They stay by the bedside and we read something from them each evening before retiring.
My husband is very interested in space exploration so, of course, his favorite book is Apollo 13. I've never read the book, but he says it's very different from the movie. So what's new?
I absolutely loved "Great Expectations" as well as "A Tale of Two Cities". Charles Dickens has a gift for being able to appeal to every sense a person posesses when describing things. By the time he's finished telling you about a room, or a place, or a thing you can smell it, taste it, feel it, hear it - it's amazing to me. If you desire to see a good film version of "A Tale of Two Cities" get the one made in the 1920's. Sydney Carlton is so perfectly portrayed. You'll love it.
"Ivanhoe" was another unexpected thrill. I actually hated to put the book down even to sleep at night. I love the character of Rebecca. She's so full of integrity. One could certainly describe her as true and faithful in all things. (By the way, read the book! No movie ever based on it, at least that I've seen, has ever done it justice. The one with Elizabeth Taylor is especially dumb.)
Of course, any Tom Clancy novel just leaves both of us sitting on the edge of our seats, though I wish he'd clean up the language. I have found myself not reading them in more recent years just because I can't stand all the swearing.
Right now I'm reading "The Secret Garden" to my niece. It's such a wonderful story my mother ends up sitting in on our sessions, too. Again, read the book. I'm sorry to say it, but Hollywood slaughtered this story as well when they made it into a film.
Little Women is a must read for anyone. There's so much more to the growth of these young sisters than any movie has ever been able to portray. The heartaches and triumphs of all the characters will leave you laughing one minute and crying the next. Every one of them will leave a deep impression upon your heart.

My husband loves all the rockin' oldies - groups like Creedance Clearwater Revival, REO Speedwagan, Deaf Leopard, Electric Light Orchestra, Led Zeplin, and Pink Floyd. He also enjoys certain songs by Elton John, Cher, Madona, etc. And before anyone starts assuming he's a bit one sided, he also likes the music of Yanni.
This will sound dumb, but I love Mitch Miller, the Four Lads, the Carpenters, Barry Manilow (especially his Singin' With the Big Bands), and most anything by John Denver. His music was always simple and inspiring. In fact, the headline at the top of our page is the chorus to one of his songs.
For anyone who hasn't heard it, the soundtrack to Jonathan Livingston Seagull is wonderful. Neil Diamond never did anything better.
Last Christmas we were introduced to Josh Groban. My sister gave us his first Christmas albumn as a gift. It's wonderful! What a perfectly clear voice he has!, though I think my husband gets a little tired of hearing Christmas songs. I sing, hum and whistle them all year long.
Dennis O'Day was a terrific Irish Tenor. "Dear Old Donegal" would really get your foot tapping.
Danny Boy is special for my husband because it brings back sentimental memories of his grandfather who used to sing it all the time.
I would like to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir produce more albumns celebrating our American heritage since I love those songs, too. They made a very good albumn years ago (I think in the 1960's), but it's definately time for a new one.
Of course, I also love any Christmas carol, any patriotic hymn, Primary songs, and, if truth be told, any church hymn in general.

You can probably tell from the "Video" segment that we don't go to the movies much. The last movie I went to see in a theater was "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". My husband's having a tough time recalling the last film he ever went to see. They're all so violent. Either that or they're filled with a bunch of sex I don't care to see. I tell you, Hollywood is reducing the entire population to nothing more than a bunch of peeping toms. Of course, I trust that no one using this site knows anything about that. Right?!
I'm very lucky to have a husband who agrees with me on this issue, though his favorite films are still macho enough, I guess. They are, of course, Apollo 13 and Hunt For Red October. Plus he loves documenteries about space and World War II.

My husband loves fishing and camping. He also loves watching the deer that roam all over the neighborhood and any fireworks display. As mentioned before, he loves watching documenteries about space, but also about animals and sea life. He also has an interest in aircraft and must observe every plane that flies by overhead. He buys several newspapers every day and must read every one of them before retiring in the evening. He loves college football, but doesn't care much for pro-football.
I like a lot of things. Gardening can be a lot of fun. I've taken the Earth Boxes we had outside over the summer, brought them indoors and re-planted them for the winter. We have a little of everything growing in every available window.
Genealogy can be a lot of fun, though I don't think it would mean nearly as much to me without the opportunity to go to the temple for my ancestors as well. I'm really enjoying this new website the church has. If used properly, I think it could really help coordinate the work ahead of us.
Poetry has been a hobby of mine for many years. My best experiences with it have always been when I was hoping to help or inspire someone else. I remember meeting up with a friend at the library one day who wanted to write a poem for her Mother for Mother's Day. She thought she didn't know what to say. In truth, she knew exactly what she wanted to say - she just didn't know how to make it rhyme. We teamed up and by the time we were finished we'd written together the most beautiful tribute. It actually brought tears to our eyes.
Sewing is something I tend to do on a "need to" basis only. Quilting is the same way. I don't do it because I love quilting; I do it because I need a blanket.
It's fun to work with tools. My husband rather hates doing it, so we sort of balance each other out in this area. When we needed our balcony door replaced a few years ago, I had a lot of fun redesigning things. We got rid of the sliding glass door and replaced it with a tall window and a wide swing door. My husband is from Idaho so this was a totaly new experience for him. He's not at all accustomed to seeing a woman swinging a hammer. Since the door was an odd size, it was a project that had to be done from scratch. I think I liked doing it all the better for that reason. I was able to use my own imagination instead of going with some prehung design. It was great! And it changed the look of the entire room.
Canoeing is another favorite. There's nothing like it in the world.
Rock climbing was another surprise. I wasn't even sure what it was when someone invited me to join a group of people going climbing for the day. It taught me a lot about faith.

We have a number of videos we enjoy. I'm sure many of you are familiar with "Rigoletto". The music extends far beyond beautiful. Joseph Paur's voice is so amazing, he makes me believe there are truly four tenors, not just three. My husband loves the little song, "I love these pigs..."
I also love the movie "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn". I know it's an oldie, but it's a great story. My husband thinks it's o.k.
And every now and then we throw in "Same River Twice" just for fun. We especially love the ending, but just in case you haven't seen it, we won't spoil it for you.
Musicals are great, too. For anyone who has never seen "Singin' In The Rain", I highly recommend it. Even my husband enjoys this movie!!

We don't think we need to write anything here. By the time you get finished reading the rest, if you don't know anything about us by then, nothing we write here will help.
