Hey Wing,

Yes, I do understand what you mean about WO. It is an emotionally draining book, and I did feel like "one less tragedy" could have happened, and the book would still have been as good.

Part of the reason I liked it is I have lived some of those situations, and what really struck me were the metaphors she was able to come up with that were nuanced, yet so precise, to describe situations I still do not have words for.

In fact, I'd read some of the book, put it down, head off to take care of other things, and my mind could not stop thinking in metaphors. lol

It was actually pretty funny, and I enjoyed it, beause I am not a good creative writer. And of course, the my new-found metaphor talent was gone in an hour.

But each time I'd pick it up again, it would come back to me, and it fascinated me.

My daughter loved it as well. Unfortunately, I have not always been a good parent, and she has suffered because of it. Although none of the physical abuse in the book happened to her, I definitely emotionally neglected her for about four years, from when she was 12 to 16--obviously some of the worst years that could happen to a child.

We've healed as much as possible, and we have a good relationships today. But when she read the book, she also related to the descriptions of neglect.

She is a wonderful writer, and recently started a workshop, but I think she told me the last meeting is this week. I hope she does more of them, as I can't stand it when years go by and she hasn't written anything.
