Hi, BJW,

Sorry for a delayed update - have been waiting to hear from some people and have been reading some books ( still reading, though)

THis is one response I got from one of my former bishops:

As for your question as i read it the first thing that came to mind was
an experience i had on the mission many moons ago.  I met a Bro. that
was just baptized , at the time he was about 40 at the time. but when
he shook my hand he did the same thing to me.  I remembered asking him
and commenting to him "that was an interesting hand shake".... he said
that he was a Mason.  My first encounter with a member of the Masons.
so that was my first impression.  I watched the u-tube video... and the
first thoughts were maybe there is some truth to the movie national
treasure. this does not change my Testimony.  If there was a picture of
the Prophets shaking hands that way then I would question that action.
Its my understanding that when a government leader meets with the top
leaders of another religion or country they are coached or counciled by
a member of their staff how to act and not offend.
Maybe some
anti-mormon councilor to the Pres. Bush and VP Cheny told them to shake
that way when one shakes the prophets hand.... Personally I would only
question that action if i saw a picture of the Prophets Shaking That
Way!!!  but we dont we see "out siders" shaking that way.  Be
careful.  when i went looking for ways the church was false i found
them... but when i looked at the ways the church was true - I found
that.    cup half empty / cup half full  theory.

I also had another reponse but cannot find it ( thought i'd saved it, but cannot find it - perhaps, deleted accidently), but it was along similar lines. As I expected - asking church people, esp. bishops and such, will not be fruitful.

I have been reading some books - again, because no one can even guide me, I ended up just picking books on the subject. Some of them are really out there - clear from the first pages, but others had some interesting information.

I tried contacting that BYU professor - egyptologist, but no response whatsoever. THis is very exasperating, especially, when he, himself, offered his email to answer my questions/suggest books etc. Cannot stand when people do that. And the thing is, they only make everything worse by so evading the issue and ignoring me - starts looking as if they are hiding something or are afraid of something.

Anyways... I keep looking.Trying to do it prayerfully, with the Spirit, because to rely just on the intellect - one can go crazy and get totally confused because there is so much nonsense and confusion out there and so many theories of sorts.

I've been reading different books on Free Masonry, too, because it seems to be always connnected one way or the other. What do you learn about the history/origin of it?... Are you told anything?

So, that's it for now. Let me know if you find anything.

that's what I thought it meant, but I was not sure because it says that there are "no new messages". Do you refer to your last message, in which you pasted a link to the handshake?
because that's the only message from you that I have right now. Unless there is another place, where I can view messages, I have not received any new ones.

Let me know

Hi,BJW,
thanks so much for sharing. I have seen a few of those pics and it is not a mere coincidence or a slip, hands do not just slip with one finger out.

Moreover, if you look closely at the pic where Pres Monson is shaking Bush's hand, you can see Monson's finger extending in that handshake, too.

I will try and ask people in church around, and let you know what they say. Another thing is that I read more about freemasons' rituals and they are too much like the Temple

ones. Even certain wording of the promises we make...  i do not know , but there have been too much odd stuff and 'coincidences' .

Anyways, thanks again, and please, keep me posted. And on my part, I will keep you updated, too. This is all too important. It is either everything or nothing.

So, have a great week and keep in touch.

Hi, bjw,

thank you for posting about the handshakes etc. This question has been bothering me much recently. I stopped discussing it with my church friends/acquainteces, because they either totally

avoid the question ( as if I am about to burst their bubble), or start saying irrelevant things. Would you mind sharing with me what your bishop/stake pres. tell you about this?...

Although, i would not trust their answer that much either. ( from my previous experiences of bringing up difficult questions I found they tend to switch the focus from the question onto me. I do agree, that a certain degree of self-examination/testimony is often needed to get an answer; however, there are certain facts/notions/situations that are independent of any personal state of mind.) So, if you do not mind sharing , I will greatly appreciate that.

Thank you,

astra81
