After reading from the Book of Mormon in Second Nephi I think I improved my understanding of the need for Opposition and Adversity in each life.  If I'm wrong in my assumption, I'm sure some good person will enlighten my mind and help me understand it better, but as it is this is one simple way I can explain the need for Opposition and Adversity in life.

There was a dear Sioux Indian sister I baptized who had a hard time quitting cigarettes to live the Word of Wisdom. She fasted and prayed for God to take away the temptation to smoke and he did.
