This, Too, Shall Pass
Posted On 11/25/2011 23:37:36 by Gargantuan

My church mission among the Native American Indians was one of the toughest in the Church when I served during the 60's. Sometimes, it became easy for the missionaries to get discouraged and then not want to serve the Indian people.

There was an exceptional missionary, however, who served with us that would read the scriptures and quietly sing this song  Oh, That I Were an Angel to himself whenever he felt discouraged or blue.  We were all motivated by his positive example and diligence in getting closer to God.  We would often sing the song with him, but change the title to Oh, That [We] Were Angels.  As we persisted in working with our people we learned a valuable lesson.

Regardless what concerns we had for the native American Indians, if we continued to love them and serve them with all our hearts that God would perform miracles and grant unto us the wish of our hearts.

Thus, it is for all who try to serve others with all their might, mind and strength.  Faithful persistence will set the stage wherein God can grant the wish of their hearts.

Blessings, Gar, "The best and most clear indicator that we are progressing spiritually and coming unto Christ is the way we treat other people." —Marvin J Ashton

This, Too, Shall Pass Away

"It is said, an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence to be ever in his view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: 'And this, too, shall pass away.' How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!" —Abraham Lincoln

Whatever is happening in your life at this moment, whether it is good or bad, a triumph or a tragedy -- whatever it is -- it soon will pass. When we realize how fleeting each precious moment is, we begin to appreciate them more, accepting the gift or the lesson each brings to us. If it is good, we can embrace it fully knowing it will all too soon be gone. If it is displeasing, we can breathe easily, content that in a moment this, too, will pass away.
