Righteous Desires of the Heart
Â
I realized, today, how far I had to go to endure to the end of my life, and I wondered if I could run to tomorrow. I wondered how God would judge me. I wondered if I would be a good enough person in His eyes to merit His blessings. As I pondered these questions, I began to wonder if the good things that I have done in my life would outweigh the many mistakes I have made. Then a few questions began to roll through my head, and I wrote the questions listed below.   Blessings, Gar
1. Is there a Point System that God will use for Giving Blessings to His Children?
God has said in Doctrine and Covenants section 130:20-21
Â
20
There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—
21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.
Â
2. Then, because I am obedient to most of God’s commandments does he give me a point for each time I do well in His eyes and then when I make a mistake, does He take away a point from my total?
Â
3. Does God bless me according to His point system or by the righteous desires of the heart?
Â
Are some experiences that I have had rated by a numbering system? For example, if I attend church on Sunday and never miss have I accumulated points that will stack up against the times that I sin or make mistakes?Â
Â
After thinking about it more, I came to the conclusion that I am given blessings according to my righteousness living, but God will also bless me according to the righteous desires of my heart.Â
Â
For example: Â
A man or women who desire to attend church, but because of a need to work on Sunday to support the family, will God withhold His blessings? I think that God will bless whom he wants to bless according to the righteous desire of their heart.Â
Â
Are my righteous desires, however, rated as points in God’s eyes? I think that maybe they are, but He knows if my righteous desires are sincere.
Â
4. In the last day when God judges all will I be judged according to how many points I have accumulated or according to my willingness to be obedient?
Â
I hope that if there is such a point system with God that Christ’s Atonement will empower me to understand how to become a better person, because I know that there are many times if I could serve another better that I would, and if I could do over what I failed to do right the first time, I would.
Â
Â
I am grateful that through God’s tender mercies for me that He blesses me according to the righteous desires of my heart which means everything to Him.
