An Open Address to the Youth of the World
Posted On 01/21/2012 12:26:01 by KeithLBrown
I do not mean to come across as being callous, cruel, or mean-spirited, but the older I get, the more discouraged and dishearten I become as I watch some of our young people - the future of our world, place themselves in a proverbial box called defeatism. Unquestionably, some of us have grown up in unfavorable conditions and in an unkind society that constantly reminds us, and in some cases has thoroughly convinced us, that our father never amounted to much, and our mother has never amounted to much, and so, as the proverbial apple never seems to fall far from the tree, we ourselves can expect to never amount to much either. The tragedy of it all is that society is not alone in painting this picture of hopelessness and despair, but that same picture hangs on the walls in our homes, as well as, in the classrooms of our schools.

I wish to send a very clear, precise, and concise message to our youth of today: the time has come for you to stop wallowing in the mud of hopelessness and slowly drowning yourselves in the sea called despair. Now is the time to break free from that proverbial box that you have found yourselves in, and from the strangling chords of the voices of naysayers who preach negativism and defeatism. Rise above your current station in life. You can if you believe that you can!

Maybe it is true that your father and mother have never done anything to make an honorable name for themselves, or have ever tried to get out of their current situations and better themselves. Maybe it is true that you were born in unfavorable and adverse conditions. Maybe it is true that all of your young life people have done nothing but knock you down and kick you while you were down. However, it does not have to stay that way. Though the night may seem dark and dreary, nighttime only last for a season and then the morning comes. And with the dawning of the morning comes a light of hope that shines bright as the noon day sun.

Now is the time for you to start realizing that you are not your father and you are not your mother. God Almighty has made each of us uniquely YOU. He has meted to you and me a measure of faith, hope, courage, talents, and abilities. It is time for you to put behind you those things that once were, and press forward to obtain those things that can, and (with faith, hope, patience, determination, and endurance) will be. Stop listening to the perpetual lies of those who do not have your best interest at heart, and start believing in yourself. You can do whatever it is you have a mind to do, and you can become whatever it is that you have a desire to become in life, but YOU have to believe that you can do it. If you cannot believe in yourselves, how can you honestly expect anyone else to?

Do not become discouraged if at first you do not succeed at doing something, but try and try again knowing that the road to success is often filled with potholes called failure. Many a success in life has been wrought through heartache and failure, so don't let that stop you. Even along the road of success will be hurdles and discouragement which you will have to get over, but don't let that stop you either. Continue to run your race with your head held high and a song of hope and gladness in your heart. You may not be the first to cross the finishing line, but then the winner of a race is not always necessarily the swiftest runner in the race, but he who runs his race well by remaining focused, staying his course, and enduring to the end.

There will be times along the way when you may become weary. Stop and rest for a little while if you must, but don't give up, give in, or quit. Remain focused on your goals and objectives. The finishing line is just in sight. You can make it. Yes you can! May God give you the hope, courage, faith, and determination to endure to the end. God bless you all!

30, or even 20 years ago, I would have written the letter above.

Today my heart is nearly broken, and my spirit much more contrite. I now know that I have to provide the courage and determination, but pray to God and look to the Savior to give me the faith, the hope, the charity and finally the amazing grace that can make it possible for me to enter into His presence. I supply the will, He supplies all the power. We are as dependent as any other embryo -- and we are Gods in embryo.

I've also come to a remarkable realization: the end result of this day of life is joy for every single soul. We may cause ourselves and others temporary sorrow, pain and even agony, but the end will be joy for everyone. Do you doubt it? I did, too.

Speaking about Perdition & Sons in D&C 88:32 (below), the Lord carefully chooses the important word "enjoy", and repeats it for emphasis.

"And they who remain [sons of perdition] shall...return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received."

Let's get this straight: the sons of perdition will enjoy their own place. How could this possibly be true?

1. These predators will have freedom to prey on each other without goody-two-shoes Celestials preaching at them all the time.

2. They enjoy the thrill of the chase,...

3. the satisfaction of revenge, sifting (threshing, thrashing) one's enemies like wheat, making them human resources, taking what one wants and throwing the rest away.

4. Every person there succeeds according to the management of the creature. No weeny broken heart or contrite spirit required; eternal progression of hubris and pride.

5. Unity is easy: one's self!

It surely is not what I want! It would be the bitterness of hell for me -- but the Almighty says Perdition & Sons will enjoy it.

Telestial souls are heirs of salvation. They are saved from the bitterness of hell, and go to a kingdom whose glory defies all description. It's a great place. Of course, the neighbours are lousy. Liars who love to lie. Pimps, witches (wicca, wicked, victims, vicious...).

The Terrestrial kingdom is even more glorious beyond description, and your neighours are honorable men and women. People who mow their lawns and try to stay in exchange with others. Good people. I like them. They receive and love the appearing of Jesus Christ.

The Celestial kingdom is where the hardest work is done. Also where the most light and glory are. Intelligent, kind, loving, holy (well rounded, whole, balanced) people who dwell unitedly in humor, beauty, selfless harmony and far-sighted initiative. I love being around these people, and I've known many over the years. They love the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ, and more: they want to be like Him; in fact, they want to be one in Him. (If they need someone to sweep the floors up there, I'm their man. I just want to live with these people forever. My wife is one.)

It appears to me that we are all part of a great plan of happiness for every single one of God's spirit children. And the great key in this probationary state is our agency: the power to act, the ability to choose, and the authority to bind. Each of us is free, and we receive what we desire (Al 29:4).

What sort of God would come up with a plan wherein even the vicious predators get to enjoy their reward???

It makes a person think. It gives me a new perspective on the encouragement of President Boyd K. Packer and others to look forward with hope, that the future for our children is bright, to go forward with faith, to "believe that all the rules will be fair, and that there will be pleasant surprises along the way."

In the final analysis, the Lord's words to Joseph in Liberty temple/jail apply to every intelligence to whom God gave spirit body: "peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment. "

The Great Plan of Happiness, indeed. The Lord is in control here and everywhere. The wicked are severely controlled, but allowed money and power here, then happiness later -- so they're happy. The righteous are protected, prospered and strengthened on this earth, then saved and (those who will) exalted in the world to come -- so they're happy. Obedience is power and happiness here and forever. Mistakes stub one's toes and cause pain. Sin is sweet on the tongue but bitter in the belly. Repentance is encouraged, but it's no bargain.

What I've observed in life and in the scriptures is that God seems to value integrity and charity above all else. So I encourage you to follow your heart. Experiment on what you love, rather than being driven by what you fear. Be valiant, first to thine own self be true, then it follows as night to day that thou canst not be false to anyone. If you make mistakes, even willfully sin, repentance is where God's love and power are most easily seen -- although, again, it's no bargain. You will pay a high, painful price for every illicit pleasure you steal. Much more than it's worth -- and Christ paid infinitely more than you do to balance the scales of the universe that you throw out of whack with your careless or rebellious detours. I've seen that every short-cut from the strait and narrow way is a detour, and President Monson said every detour is a dead-end. When you slide head-first into the dead-end, then you get to back-track up hill (remember, you slid down.)

At some point you will come to the conclusion I have reached: OBEDIENCE IS EASIER (and way more fun) THAN REPENTANCE. I don't want any more bad habits!

That's the way it looks from the rock I'm sitting on.

God bless you forever.
