Daughters-in-law
Posted On 01/08/2008 23:13:41 by worlds_best_mom
The other morning my husband baked Cake Bread for breakfast. It's a coffee cake with gooey topping that sinks through the sweet batter as it cooks. Yummy! My son grumbled that we should have had it for breakfast on Christmas morning, which was usually our tradition. Why didn't we?

Ahhh…. I have a new daughter-in-law. That's why! My son and new bride spent their first Christmas together with us. We all discussed Christmas morning breakfast, debating which of our two traditions we should make. Up piped our newest family member with a suggestion: "How about breakfast burritos?"

Nearly a year earlier a different daughter-in-law had taught me how to make breakfast burritos. I'd made them a few times, but not for a long while. I knew I'd better hurry and call her to get refresher instructions, but instead, asked my new daughter-in-law how she made them. Her recipe was similar. We broke tradition and had breakfast burritos for the first time ever on Christmas morning! Outrageous!

I'm lucky enough to have 3 wonderful daughters-in-law. They have taught me new things, influenced our traditions, and added a lot to our family. I remembered this a few days ago when I was standing in a fast food restaurant with one of my daughter-in-laws and commented on a picture of a new menu item—a bun topped with a burger, frito chips, chili and cheese. It looked yummy! "Oh, we make something like that," she said, "but we wrap it in a flour tortilla instead of putting it on a bun." She said her family loves it, and she uses homemade chili. We talked about adding chopped tomatoes and lettuce. Guess what we'll soon try?

In case you haven't guessed, I've got three wonderful daughters-in-law! And being a mom-in-law is fun too. One of my daughter-in-laws asked me to teach her how to bake bread--something I can do. It's only been about 3-4 months since that first lesson, and now I brag that she's the queen of bread making!

Gotta run--one of my daughters-in-law needs a little help today with two of my adorable grandkids! Yep, I love having daughters-in-law sparklygrin.gif !
