Reconciliation with my daughter
Posted On 06/26/2012 00:18:23 by Hala401
Since I became part of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, there have been several miracles happen in my life. I've been estranged from my family since December 2004 and I had lost hope of that ever changing. Last July, I got a call from my Son. He wanted to meet for Breakfast. He'd fly clear out here to Oregon from Virginia. As we talked, it seemed that he had lost a Kidney to cancer. My heart broke for him. Since then, we talk on a regular basis. Last week I finally got up the nerve to ask him if he would forward a letter to my youngest daughter who lives here in the Hillsboro area. Much to my surprise, he said he would. I am composing the letter now and it brings up such feelings of brokenness and regret. I need Heavenly Father to give me wisdom in this.

Dear Hala,
My heart goes out to you as you try to reconcile with your daughter. As a new member of the church, you are just beginning to experience some of the miracles God has in store for you. As you live your life following the commandments, and striving to be obedient, he will bless you with his choicest blessings. In the Doctrine and Covenants, God tells us that all we experience will work together for our good. Even the bad experiences will help us to learn, to stretch our souls, and to humble ourselves before God when we cannot succeed on our own. We are as little children, trying to understand, to grow, and to fall occasionally and scrape our knees sometimes. But the Savior is kind, patient, loving, and sees us as children learning about the good and bad on this earth and teaching us how to stay close to him to receive his guidance and counsel. One wonderful blessing you can ask for, call your nearest temple and ask for your daughters name and even your own name to be placed on the prayer rolls of the temple. For 2-3 weeks, your names will be placed in a special pouch and the prayers of those attending the temple will be on your behalf, truly a great blessing, even if you are not yet able to go to the temple yourself yet. Many people will pray for you. And many prayers of the faithful are always a good thing...
Best wishes on your reconciliation. May the Lord bless you with the gift of discernment, that you may know what to say and when to say it...

Thank you for your heartfelt advice. I will call the Temple tomorrow. I will ask that they pray for her and I. I did not want to return to Oregon, and I have been comfortable here for a year. Now, I am feeling restless; thinking about where to go.
