Our personal temple is our body and it can be a dwelling place for the Spirit of God. Gar, "In the peace of these lovely temples, sometimes we find solutions to the serious problem of life. Temples are places of personal revelation." —Ezra Taft BensonÂ

The Inside is More Important Than the Outside
I attended the Temple today and noticed that the outside of the beautiful temple structure had scaffolding all around it. When I was on the inside, I asked one of the temple missionaries why there was so much construction on the outside of the temple. He said that some of the windows had begun to leak and needed to be resealed. I asked if they were going to get it finished before the winter months and he said that they were on schedule to finish it. He added, however, that some newly married couples had complained about the construction sight ruining the background image of their wedding pictures. I looked at the pleasant faces of the people with me inside the temple and whispered that what is on the outside isn’t as important as what is on the inside. He thought for a second and nodded his head.
As the temple session began, I thought that not only is this temple beautiful, but the beauty of those attending are as well and why were they beautiful? The answer was easy for me to understand. They are serving the dead and those who cannot serve themselves.Â
Doctrine and Covenants 138:48Â "Foreshadowing the great work to be done in the temples of the Lord in the dispensation of the fullness of times, for the redemption of the dead, and the sealing of the children to their parents, lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse and utterly wasted at his coming."
My thoughts went deeper than the reason for temple work and I thought that our bodies are scared temples and properly caring for them spiritually as well as physically is very important.
I Corinthians 6:19 "What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"
How can we spiritually strengthen our personal temple ?
Praying for an understanding of the scriptures as you read them is part of spiritually caring for your personal temple [body]. As you read, you will learn more of God and your heart will feel the influence of the Holy Ghost. The influence of the Holy Ghost will give you a desire to share this feeling with others and sing the song of redeeming love as Alma did for those whom he served.
Alma 5:26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
Then, as the warmth of the noonday sun will follow the cooler morning dawn, you will gain a stronger desire to serve others especially those who can’t serve themselves [kindred dead].
I urge you with all of my heart to prepare to attend the temple and then do it repeatedly. You will feel rescued from the cares of this world and your soul will feel the fresh cleansing influence of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
