Giorgia Fumanti’s divine voice to set Place des Arts ablaze on March 29

Montreal, Friday, March 14, 2008 – Transplanted Quebec soprano Giorgia Fumanti is getting ready to light up Théatre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts on Saturday, March 29 at 8pm. With her customary grace and beauty, the raven-haired beauty from Tuscany will lend her angelic voice to a brilliant arrangement of both pop and classical songs in what promises to be an unforgettable concert.

The evening’s ambitious program will showcase Giorgia’s fascinating interpretations of some of Ennio Morricone’s most famous works (including selections from Once Upon a Time in the West, The Mission and Cinema Paradiso), as well as her trademark pop-opera renditions of such timeless classics as La Maison Sous les Arbres (Bécaud), L’Hymne à l’Amour (Piaf), Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin (Ferland) and Fields of Gold (Sting), with the superb accompaniment of Philippe Drolet on piano and as Musical Director, Pedro Belisle on keyboards, Christophe Perret on flute, Samuel Joly on drums, Frédéric Beauséjour on bass and Alex Bonneau on guitar.

In addition to the above-mentioned musical masterpieces the talented, thoroughly mesmerizing artist will offer some original works from her albums Like a Dream (2004) and From My Heart. This last album, launched recently, is doing extremely well and is firmly establishing Ms Fumanti as an international star. The soprano has just completed a spectacularly successful tour of Asia and London, sharing the stage with none other than the celebrated tenor José Carreras. Not to mention that she sang before a television audience of over a billion people to mark the Chinese New Year last month, and had the honour of representing the Americas during the closing ceremonies of the Special Olympics in Shanghai last October. Giorgia was also invited by former U.S. Vice-President and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Al Gore to give two concerts last year during meetings organized by The Climate Group, an independent organization devoted to preventing climate change. The world-renowned piano prodigy Lang Lang, who will be performing in Montreal in May, also invited Ms Fumanti to join him on stage last June for a prestigious concert at Lake Las Vegas. By any measure, this exciting soprano has truly arrived on the international scene.

Giorgia Fumanti has the voice and charisma we associate with any great artist who can seduce and mesmerize an audience through the sheer force and elegance of their performance. The evening of Saturday March 29 promises to be an event for the ages, an absolutely enchanting musical and vocal tour de force.
