What a Week
Posted On 03/21/2008 17:42:25 by Palerider
This past saturday I was at home going about my buisness. I came into my house from outside and took a look at my cell phone. I noticed I had missed a call from a guy I work with. This was his saturday to work so I assumed he was calling me about a work related question. I called him back and he told me that the Dealership we work for has lost its floor plan. In other words, everything on the lot was being repoed as we spoke. I left friday evening for home and everything seemed just fine and normal. Now my world has just collapsed. I am now afraid that I have lost my job and will be in a desperate search for another one. Then I wondered how many employment ads are out there for someone my age.
To add to all of this my daughter and grandaughter were visiting from out of town and when I recieved this call my wife and daughter were at a stake Relief Society Social. Later that night my whole family was here and I still did not share this info with them.
I got up on Sunday morning and traveled to the Singles Ward in our stake. I was asked to speak in Sacrament Meeting. I went there and gave my talk and tried to be happy. I have 2 kids that attend the Singles Ward in our Stake and we rode together. I did not tell them about my employment situation. Later that evening I told my wife what happened. I had to tell her cause she was getting ready to leave for a few days. Her Dad was having surgery and she was going to stay a few days with him and his wife. My wife is awesome, as soon as I told her about my phone call and that I have to attend a meeting on monday morning she dropped down on her knees and said...come on lets have a prayer together.
MOnday morning came and the owners I work for are awesome. This family has been in buisness for about 45yrs. This was very hard for them to speak with us. They told us what happened and said they were going to Chicago to meet with some key people that are very very interested in investing in the company. This did happen and we should be back up and running in a few weeks. They will pay us for as long as it takes. We are all happy and excited about this. After losing sleep for a few days this was great news.
My wife and I have been thru our share of trials in our marriage and we keep on going to church. We know this is where we belong. There is nothing more important than attending church on sunday and partaking of the sacrament. This will not be our last trial and we just hope and pray we are more prepared for the next one.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is real and will comfort us during our times of trials. It will and can change your life. No matter what always pray and read your scriptures.
I just covered alot of things in a short amount of time. I left alot of stuff out, but I just wanted to share a peek into my life for a week.

Wow Pale, I started feeling sick as I read your blog.

This could not be happening to my Pale who is always feeling positive, and never gloomy.

My Pale whom I used to think was a real weirdo, but whom I have come to have a true affection for, even though I still think you're a weirdo.

My Pale for whom a certain Berry and I fight over to see who you like more (I know I always lose that one, and I certainly understand why, but I really have fun just being in the game.)

And my Pale for whom I hope everything does work out, and that, most of all, you will have peace through a difficult time, which sounds like it may be working itself out.

If it's not, then I wish you stronger peace, and support for your entire family. I have come to realize what a solid man you are in your faith and your beliefs. I know they will help you whether things go well or not.

Do me a favor. Get out the purple boxing glove with the fru fru on it and set it somewhere nearby. That way you'll know I'm thinking about you during this difficult time, cuz I really do care about you, okay?

Love,
Elphaba,

Hang in there Pale. It's great that you have faith that things will work out. Having been through a failed business, I have been where you are, actualy more like where your employers are. I hated having to lay people off and I tried to get everyone what they deserved. Sorry that you have to go through this.

Pale,

I admire you for your strength.  My wife and I were ready to buy a new home back in August.  We have not owned a home in over 20 years for many reasons.  We made a deposit and things just did not settle right.  It went on for weeks.  I knew how much my wife was looking forward to this beautiful home.  I finally had to tell her that I just didn't feel right about continuing with the house.  She was picking out granite for the counter tops and tile for the floors.  She said "Well if you don't feel right then we won't do it.  A few weeks later my boss called me in and switched me from commission to salary, a 33% reduction in pay.  Said he was anticipating the bad market.  Three months later he cut the commission another 50%.  I am now working for 1/3 of what I made in 2007.  Boy am I glad we didn't buy the house.

After all this the next step is to start my own business and be master of my own destiny.  I feel the same about at this age starting new but as long as I am doing what the Lord expects of me then I will be blessed or at least not tested beyond what I can handle.

Good luck Pale from a good friend you have never met.

And thanks for doing that.  No one is immune from the craziness of mortality.  Hang in there.
