Return of the Snoopy Snowcone Machine

Yesterday was my husband's birthday.  All my food plans went great!  I didn't know how much he liked green Jell-O until he told me he begs his mom to make it for Christmas Eve.  He said it tasted exactly like hers and he was surprised because other people have tried to imitate it and it comes out different.  I was proud.  I even ate a couple bites.  My son tried to give his to me and I said, "Uhhhh ... No thanks."  It's not my favorite.  Maybe the same recipe with a different flavor and no nuts might appeal to me more.

I also made creamy taco casserole.  He said it wasn't one of his favorites growing up, but it brought back a lot of memories.  When he saw the ingredients I had out, he said, "I know what you're making!"  And I broke my birthday rule and let him shred the chicken when it started to make me gag.  He insisted.  I didn't want to let him help with anything.  He said the casserole turned out better than his mom's because of the moist rotisserie chicken we used.  It was good and the kids liked it too.  Yay!  It's hard to find meals they all like.  I was surprised because it had green chiles in it and I thought they would reject it.

He loved the chocolate cherry cake and had forgotten about the special icing his mom puts on it.  It's really easy and I'm going to use it for other cakes!  You just boil some milk with butter and sugar for a minute, then add about half a bag of chocolate chips.  After that you just pour it over the cake and it hardens.

I did about three loads of dishes yesterday from all the cooking I did and I still have more, including a stubborn one with hardened cheese from the twice baked potatoes I made the night before. (I was letting it soak and I still can't get it off.)  The birthday boy attempted to do the dishes last night and failed miserably.  Ha!

After dinner, my husband opened presents including the Snoopy Snowcone Machine!  We went to this store recently and I was really excited to see it had made a comeback.  My husband said he never had one as a kid, but always wanted one.  It was a real hit with the kids and I was laughing thinking about all the time I spent on my front porch in the summer, taking half an hour to make a half cup of shaved ice.  I just realized this morning that my thumb feels bruised and that's what it's from.  I'm glad they didn't change it even though they could've given it a comfort grip handle or something.  It's just the way I remember it.

We also gave him the second season of 24, Pirates 3, a frisbee, some fun helicopter toy, and a game called Farkle, which you can also use to play "No Dice".  That's the game they play on the ship in Pirates of the Caribbean 2.  We've been playing it since before that and it's fun and simple.  Farkle has 6 sets of different colored dice.

Ah, well I won't have to cook tonight because we have plenty of leftovers (especially the Jell-O).

Farkle... that sounds like something I did after I drank too much in High School. Or a disease? I can't come into work today. I woke up with the Farkle and now I get dizzy when I spin around reeeeally fast.

Funny.
