The more the merrier

Hello,

I figure, I may as well put something up, open to discussion. Sometimes I hear kids say "It's our duty to pick on our younger siblings" whereas I reply "No, my siblings actually like me." Then they sort of get a strange look on their face, one of those, and that's the end of the conversation.

Ayway, just a thought.

I'll be honest.  MtheK, who wrote this initial post is my son.  I love him very much and am very proud of him.  I have to say that I insist that the siblings be nice to each other.  I do not allow them to fight.  That's not saying that they don't, because they do.  But when it happens we put a stop to it.  And both children get punished.

Why you may ask?  Simple, because I believe that contention is against Heavenly Father, especially contention among siblings.  Michael is a great example in our home.  He is a peace maker.  I'm proud of him for that.

THAT is how we do it at our house -- I do not make traditional excuses for any type of contention in our home.  Of course, there is some fighting, but I try to teach my kids through it.  There is no, "Let him have it." when the baby cries just to get his way (2 year old); there is no "boys will be boys" if they are being too physcial (for example); there is no "he did it first" as an acceptable reason for someone's behavior; etc.  My kids are great with each other despite the daily ups and downs -- they seem to really like each other, and I'm thankful for that.  A lot of that is their own choice, and does not come from me.
