Feelings about General Conference
Posted On 04/29/2008 06:42:16 by PapilioMemnon

I'm not sure I can express in words how I feel about General Conference, but I'll try.

To have the privilege of watching live a Prophet of God, Twelve Apostles and other General Authorities, men and women, speak the Lord's will, counsel, exhortation, His concern, love, and encouragement for us, and actually feeling their personal concern and love for each one of us is more than amazing. All the effort and diligence they put into it shows how much they really and deeply care for us. These men and women speak with the tongue of angels! When I think about General Conference, a very special scripture comes to mind. This scripture was given to Joseph Smith on the day the church was organized, April 06, 1830 on section 21, and on verses 4 to 6:

4 Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me;
  5 For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.
  6 For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; yea, and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to shake for your good, and his name's glory.

To know that God gave them the power to speak in His place, and the promise the Lord makes to us if we pay heed to, receive their words as if were His own in faith and patience is comforting and powerful for they fill us with faith, strength, courage, hope,and charity.
When I'm watching them, at times, it seems they are speaking to me alone; I feel the Spirit so strong, especially when they address a topic that is in my mind. I ponder their words, and marvel at how they can "read my mind...," pray about them, and I try to integrate them in my life, or change something, or persevere in something. I know that God knows me personally, and sends them to address my concerns and problems, and it is because He loves me, and I feel His love through them and also their love. I just need to be in the right place, at the right time, doing the rigth thing: Attending General Conference meetings!

I LOVE General Conference!

I heard so much about General Conference and how wonderful it all was.  Unfortunately I had to miss out on it as I was giving birth to my beautiful baby boy, so I won't complain.  But I eagerly await the Enzign Issue so I too can read what everyone has been talking so much about.

I love General Conference too.  It is the time during the whole year when I am able to feel the most peace.  Thank you for sharing your testimony here.
