My Life Today
Posted On 05/06/2008 20:10:16 by Stars15k

Okay, what to blog about if you are a completely ordinary, middle-aged, middle-incomed, middle-American LDS Sister......hmmmm.  There is nothing really extraordinary in my life at the moment.  I am 47 years old, married with one grown married son, Reuben.  His wife is named Amber, and she is very sweet and a great match for him and an outstanding mother for my two grandchildren.  They are Madison, who will be 5 years old this year and Zachariah, aka Zach or Bubby who will be 3 in just a few weeks.  My son was raised LDS, but was never truly converted, like we all really need to happen at some point in our lives.  Amber is the granddaughter of a Penecostal Minister, and now they all are very active in a Pentecostal church.  They live to LDS standards of tithing, Word of Wisdom, daily prayer, family prayer, and everything except the Restoration.  It's a sore spot, but we all remain as neutral as possible.  We still hope and pray that someday......well, you know.

My hobbies are knitting and cooking and , after tree pollen season, fishing, especially fly fishing, tying all of my own flies.  How many LDS women can do that?  I'm very good at all of the above and hope to begin teaching knitting soon.

My life in the church is unusual.  My husband is a 30+year Church employee, was just released from teaching Sunday School for 3 years and I am unactive.  I still believe and always will.  I'm just immature enough to let some of the people bother me to the point of not going....in fact, some of the same people that drove my son away.  He's a lot like me.  I was a convert, the only member of my family to even take missionary lessons, and was baptized when I was 16.  My second Sunday School teacher was a returned missionary; his welcome back and my confirmation were on the same day.  Two years later, he's in my math class in college.  As a familar face, we sat beside and started talking, then being friends, then dating and finally marriage in the Washington DC temple in 1980.  My trip alone with my husband and his (member) family to the temple was my wedding gift from my parents.  It's been a good thing for all this time and the best thing that could have happened for us both.  We've been very blessed.

I feel such joy knowing that the Church is true, so confident in the authority of the Prophets of the Restoration and so lucky to be a part of the True Church, it's almost indescribable.  Especially with so many problems with other churches right now.

So my day today was ordinary in every way.  A little time for the dogs, cooking a meal, and spending time on the computer.  Oh, and voting.  For the first time I can remember my vote actually counted!  Living in Indiana, we have one of the last primary dates and the Presidential candidates have always been already decided.  Not today.....Indiana finally matters!  Woo-hoo!  But never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  I only hope that enough of the other Hoosiers (what you call someone from Indiana, not "Indianers") are as right as I am.  Tomorrow, the biggest thing I'll be doing is laundry.  Wow does the fun ever stop or what?  I might even change out my wardrobe and put up all the winter stuff for summer, which means using SpaceBags, a thrill if ever there was one.  Keep you posted on the progress of this mighty work.
