i guess phones are a necessary evil
Posted On 05/09/2008 09:58:53 by Gwen

maybe it's just me, maybe it's my area but does anyone else notice this about ppl with phone call occupations (for lack of knowing what to call it)?

ok so maybe this is more a rant than a real inquary for having just spent the last 20 min being treated like i'm compleatly stupid.

if i call into a call center somewhere (insurance co., billing somewhere, credit cards, etc) with a question i'd rather have a woman answer than a man.  the women are much more pacient and though my questions may seem stupid to someone that answers these questions for a living they are serious for me.  i like to be treated like i'm a serious customer.  however when a man answers i get treated like i'm stupid.  i hate calling into these places so much that i truely do process and think about what i'm asking before i call, though i don't claim to be the brightest person i know i'm not stupid.  so why must they treat me this way?  does it make them feel smart to treat me that way?  i'd think they'd like the knight in shining armor role, they have all the answers to my questions, save the day.  i would think that would be an ego boost.  maybe they hate their jobs.  i don't know, whatever.

when i get calls (salesmen and such) i'd much rather talk to a man than a woman.  when the role is reversed and they are calling me the men i guess try to turn on some charm or somthing cause at that point i can say nothing wrong.  they treat me great.  i talked to one guy, knowing i wasn't buying, for 15 min just cause i liked how he was treating and talking to me.  lol and he still didn't get mad when i confessed i wasn't buying and needed to get back to the kids (my justification for such behavior was he sounded like my brother who never calls and i was enjoying the memories listening to him brought back lol isn't that sad?)  women however treat me like i'm bothering them........excuse me, you called me, you intrupted my day.  don't get an attitude if i don't want what you are selling or don't have time in my day to talk.

i swear i even had one woman prank calling me.  i hung up on this one woman, i said no thank you i'm busy, and she got pushy so i hung up.  that same number came up three times that day and twice the next day and when i answered the person on the other end hung up.  i really think she took it personaly and saved my number so she could call and hang up on me when she got frustraited.  maybe not, but it was definately strange.

maybe ppl like that who hate their jobs develop phone rage.  i know i've had particular companies call me so much (even after asking them to take me off their list) i could get phone rage.  is there even such a thing, if we can get road rage why not on the phone, right?

sigh, ok so i'm done.........well, i'll stop anyway.  i hate ppl sometimes.  ok so hate is a strong word but you know what i mean.  blah

OHHHH!!! I got one!!! I called and was on hold FOREVER to an insurance company, then They said to call another number, so I called that number, then I was told tha tI had to call another number, and that number said they were terminated...and that the whole company had terminated the plan so they had apparently chosen another provider, then they pull out a different insurance card, and I call that insurance, and then the lady calls her husband and he says that he will go talk to personell, and then calls back and it is a whole different company that handles vision and they dont have a card you just have to know...Wow...Later!

I hate making business calls too, especially when they have the automated voice thing that won't ever work for me because my kids always scream in the background.  And whenever I have to call my credit card company, they try to sell me their insurance plan and it's like they won't grant my request until I've told them no 10 times.  Last time I said, "I'm hanging up now.  I said no."

When we had telemarketers growing up, my brother used to put the phone in the silverware drawer, shake it, and scream.

I get 1 to 6 recorded phone calls a day.  Grrrr.  It's a phenomenon of the age -- telemarketing and similar.  Someone should write a book about the effect on our society.
