My Saturday has been very nice so far.
I woke up and went outside and watered my plants. I love my yard. I love the butterflies, birds, and the beauty of the plants and flowers. Bubba and Ryan went outside with me. They just sat on the front steps petting our dog, Molly.
I have alot to clean and organize today, but that can all wait until after our nap! Saturday's and Sunday's are great, because those are the only two days that I can guarantee that me and the kids will get a long nap! I always read to them before bed at night, and before we take a nap on Sat. and Sunday. They LOVE being read to, and I LOVE reading out-loud.
I have read them chapter books (Magic Tree House), books on nature, comic books (Captain Underpants), books of nursery rhymes, poetry (Shell Silverstein and others), fables, classics, and of course, books on the gospel.
They have the whole collection of Deanna Draper Buck books from Deseret Book.com. Those books are great! I love the children gospel books from Deseret. Their books combine wonderful illustrations and pictures with priceless doctrine and principles from our Church. Ryan and Bubba love reading about Nephi and his brothers.
In fact, I highly recommend the "Liken the Scriptures" series of live-action movie musicals. These movies re-enact the scriptural stories with music, dance, humor, and with wit. My kids love these series of movies, but I like them even more. I really liked Episode 1 Liken The Scriptures: Nephi and Laban (formerly titled, "I Will Go and Do"), and Episode 3 Liken The Scriptures: David and Goliath (formerly titled, "One Smooth Stone"). These two are my favorite so far. Due to budget constraints, I have not bought the last few. I am looking forward to eventually purchasing the whole series.
I sure would like to start a thread on the good movies/books that I have read lately. I enjoy reading books for youth. Cornelia Funke is one of my new favorite authors. I have read Dragon Rider, InkSpell, InkHeart, and Igraine the Brave. She is a wonderful writer. My kids are too young to read her big books (Bubba is 4 and Ryan is 6), but I know that they will enjoy these books when they get to middle school. There are so many good authors out there right now for young readers. I try to find books by Newberry and Caldecott winning authors. Not only do I enjoy reading for myself, but I think it is important for me to have read the same books that my children will eventually read. We can have discussions on them, share our likes/dislikes, and it gives me the chance to decide which books I want them to read and which ones I think they should avoid.
Well, it is time to read to Ryan and Bubba...and then lay down for a nap!!!!! LOL LOL
