Mitt Romney, Republican V.P.?
Posted On 08/26/2008 09:58:09 by Bethie

I'm still praying for our country's best hope right now, that Mitt Romney will become the Vice President candidate of the Republican Party. I still can't believe that he isn't the Republican candidate for President !

But, God is in charge and His plans are above our plans and He will do what is best for America, even if it may come about in a way I couldn't have imagined. But somehow, I believe, Mitt Romney will be a big part of it!

"It is the common task of each generation-- and the burden of liberty -- to preserve this country, expand its freedoms and renew its spirit so that its noble past is prologue to its glorious future.

"To this task, accepting this burden, we are all dedicated, and I firmly believe, by the providence of the Almighty, that we will succeed beyond our fondest hope. America must remain, as it has always been, the hope of the Earth.

"Thank you, and God bless America."

You can download this from Gutenburg for free, read the original version online, or buy it from Amazon.

Dear Bethie,

I very much appreciate you comments.  Did you ever read a book called Man Without A Country.  It's authored by Edward Everette Hale.  Wonderful story!  I think it's out of print, but you could probably find a copy of it either in a "used" book store or perhaps at one of those Internet sites like Amazon.  It was available in audio for a time, too.  You might find an old copy of that.

It's about a young man serving in the military just after the Revolutionary War.  Because he grew up in the western area of the country (a part of Texas that then belonged to Mexico), he felt no real connection to the newly formed United States.  He finds himself being accused of being false to his country and court marshalled.  His punishment is to never see the United States again, or any information pertaining to it.  At first, he thinks this is some sort of joke, but over the years he learns so much and comes to appreciate the United States probably more than any other person living here.

The author claims the story is fiction, but in the course of my own personal reading I discovered there really was a man by the name of Philip Nolan who grew up in the area of Texas depicted in the story and was also fought in the military there.  The history book claimed he was shot down by cannon fire.  I will leave it to you to decide which version of his life you believe.
