2009

2009 will be fine.

I have hope that it will be. Even as it is only the second day of this new year, I have found both justice and mercy.  2008 was miserable. Although many good things happened, meeting new friends, sunshine, love and the gospel knowledge gained ( I read through the Book of Mormon on my own for the first time) it seems to me that we all had over our share of burdens, trauma and pain. I know that I sure did.  I cannot say it was my worst year, but it was pretty close to it.  (BTW, 1988 was my worst year. Was that also a leap year?)

Let me tell you about my first "2009 will be fine" experience for the year: Today I called about a bill I got for attorney fees. My son had gone to juvy in May. Sadly he should not have been there. The lawyer, the corrections officer, the deversion officer all said this child should never had come there.  He is disabled. In the lock up he had some wonderful conversations with the corrections officer, who told me over the phone that he is a polite, respectful boy, very pleasant but he doesn't have a clue why he is here. But once they are brought there, the ball is in motion... lock-up, trials, lawyers, and all has to occur.  Essentially one is guilty because they were brought there. And you have to work to prove other wise. Understanding that one even did something wrong, is irrelevant. So we went through a lot. And eventually they allowed that he not go on trial, because he didn't have a record they allowed him to do a few hours of community service and I paid a deversion fee.  Then in December I get a bill for $225. I call today and she said to expect another bill for a daily rate for being in lock-up.  Oh, my. I told her what had happened. And she said "I will cancel the fees."  There is mercy. I know it is the year. For if I had been able to reach them by phone back in December when I got the letter, I don't think it would have had the same outcome.

So there is hope where there is faith.  I have faith that 2009 will bring us all the peace and joy we need.
