I was reading in the Doctrine and Covenants this evening and was impressed with the exhortation found in section 93, verse 53, which reads, "And, verily I say unto you, that it is my will that you should hasten. . . to obtain obtain a knowledge of history, and of countries, and of the kingdoms, of laws of God and man, and all this for the salvation of Zion. Amen." I'm currently a student at Brigham Young University, and I have been striving to learn about "history" and "the laws of God and man." It often seems like I will never finish my studies.
I have always appreciated the value of an education and the blessings it will bring me personally, but I haven't really given much thought to using my education to help the "salvation of Zion." The motto on the entrance to BYU campus says "enter to learn, go forth to serve." I guess this is two reminders for me of the importance of an education in order to bless others. I should hasten my learning and look for ways to serve once I've graduated.
