Faith-promoting stories have really hurt my faith in miracles. I used to love to listen to any story about miraculous things happening, but because most of them are rumors, lies, made-up stories, I have turned into a bit of a cynic. To make matters worse, the prophets say the only reason miracles wouldn't be present in someone's life is if they don't believe they can be. Not good! Believer-turned-cynic +no-faith-no-miracles.
I recently had sat through a discussion on faith and miracles. In this discussion the minister cited stories of miracles happening out in Africa because the people out there, at least where he went, hadn't been affected by the "enlightened"(doubt-stricken) state the people of the west are in. To be completely frank, despite my cynicism, I fully believed his stories to be true. I believe in miracles wrought by the power and name of Jesus Christ. So, I'm a cynic, who still believes miracle stories. I guess I'm a half in-half out kind of guy.
I also believe in miracles through our Lord because of what has happened in my life. I had scarlett fever when I was about 5 years old. My father, a high priest in the LDS church, gave me a blessing in the name of the Lord and I was healed by the next morning! Yeah, big miracle happened to me. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with rheumatic arthritis...which was also miraculously healed by the Lord through my father's faith.
So even though many untrue stories circulate, I for one believe that Jesus Christ still, like before, has the power to work mightly miracles in our lives. The tricky part is to just believe Him, even though others would try to persuade us not to with lies, rumors, and made-up stories. Miracles still happen everywhere, and will always happen as long as we believe the Lord can make them happen.
Thanks for reading.
