I wish I could express in number the amount of times I have heard others, not of my faith, refer to women in the LDS church as second class citizens . However, its been countless times. In my opinion it only serves to prove their ignorance about our religion.
How many times have I heard, Well women don't hold the priesthood so that means men are above you. pleeeze, I don't want the priesthood. If I had the priesthood that would put me in a position of being qualified to be a bishop. Okay, I can't speak for the rest of you women but I have enough on my plate. Between kids, laundry, cooking, kissing boo-boos, and being the best mom ever :) , then keeping my church callings such as primary and visiting teaching I most certainly don't want to hold the priesthood too. In our faith women are considered to have a divine nature and to walk spiritualy closer to God than any other creature on earth. We are held in high regard and treated tenderly and with great respect. Our words in sacrament meetings are listened to just as the mens are. We are equals in so many ways. Many men of our faith will tell you that without the women of our church the faith would not go on. We are mothers, aunts, granddaughters , and sisters. We serve a divine purpose and are loved by many. To be a second class citizen would mean that you are below others. So that would mean we are treated as first class citizens because the men need us and protect us and treat us like royalty.
