Melkezidek
Posted On 06/06/2009 02:17:47 by Abbadon

I have a question in regards to your priesthood. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to answer it? I haven't been getting very clear answers from the lds people here and as a poor starving college student I don't want to fail my world religions paper. I am not mormon...but I was wondering if you guys have another name for the melkezidek priesthood or if you really swear the oath of melkezidek when you become high priests? It would greatly help if someone could answer this question thanks.

Thats odd that you should say that because your doctrines and covenants suggest otherwise very strongly maybe you should re-read them. I am sorry my question was vague there is a biblical oath that god gives to holders of the melchizedek priesthood, but I suppose this all depends on which book you choose to believe in. I am not religious so *shrugs* I don't care either way but trying to weed through the conflicts between mormons and christians doctrine is giving me a migraine.

When a man receives the Melchizedek Priesthood, he enters with an oath and a covenant. The covenant is that the man on his part agrees to magnify his calling in the priesthood, to keep the commandments of God, to be righteous in all that God has asked, to be faithful and to be virtuous. Those who keep this covenant will be sanctified by the Spirit and receive 'all that [the] Father hath."3 The oath is the solemn testimony of God!

You can go onto LDS.org and type in Melchizedek Priesthood in the seach box.  I suggest you click on the Bible Dictionary and then check the scriptures (see in the Book of Psalms 110:4 and Hebrew 3:1 for starters).  There is no "swearing of oath" or anything like that.  There is no "mystic sourcery" or anything like that.  It's simply the "greater" priesthood, (more responsibilty, more opportunity to serve, not better than).  Melchizedek Priesthood is pretty much the same for each office you may serve in, (Elder, High Priest) just different responibilites.  We may hold different "keys" but those keys allow us to serve in different ways.  Go to lds.org and check it out.  You'll get an "A" on your paper.
