Dear Everyone,
I wrote this poem such a long time ago I almost forgot I had it, but steve354's blog about 9/11 and taking time to show our patriotism brought it back to mind. The refrain to this was actually an advertisement posted back in the 1600's during the colonization of this land. Investors used it as a means of persuading people to uproot themselves from their homelands and re-settle in the "New World". This one's for you, steve354.
"Where None Before Hath Stood"
Long ago our fathers came from far across the sea
With strong desire in their hearts, a yearning to be free
To work the land and worship God as free men ought and should
To build a new foundation in support of all that's good
With daughtless faith and courage bright they faced the wilderness
Commencing the establishment of hope and righteousness
And to the adventurers thus (they wrote) -
"Be not dismayed at all.
For scandall cannot do us wrong,
God will not let us fall.
Let all men know our willingness
For that our work is good.
We hope to plant a nation
Where none before hath stood!
Our Founding Fathers made a pledge for freedom to contend -
Is life so dear or peace so sweet that we should not defend
Our rights and our religion, our freedom and our peace
That through our love of liberty all nations may be blessed?
And to the (patriot) thus (they wrote) -
Be not dismayed at all.
For scandall cannot do us wrong,
God will not let us fall.
Let all men know our willingness
For that our work is good.
We hope to plant a nation
Where none before hath stood!
Then let us first establish peace at home among our own
United in our efforts we'll preserve the life we've known
As this nation under God for us new freedoms shall employ
May we be blessed with brotherhood and know true peace and joy.
And to the (courageous) thus (we say) -
Be not dismayed at all.
For scandall cannot do us wrong,
God will not let us fall.
Let all men know our willingness
For that our work is good.
We (hope to preserve) a nation
Where none before hath stood!
As sons and daughters of the cause, we need to take a stand
To maintain truth and justice as our title through the land
That we may stand triumphant as our banner we unfurl
And wave it's colors proudly as an ensign to the world
(So,) to the (courageous) thus (we say) -
Be not dismayed at all.
For scandall cannot do us wrong,
God will not let us fall.
Let all men know our willingness
For that our work is good.
(We've planted us) a nation
Where none before hath stood!
