For Our Good?
If you get discouraged at times and feel alone in your efforts to overcome a weakness or an affliction, do this. Remember the words of the Lord to the Prophet Joseph Smith when he was having that great test of his faith in the Liberty Jail. The Lord said to him,
"If thou art called to pass through tribulation …" and then the Lord called to mind a series of possibilities that would test any man to the utmost—and he then concluded: "Know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience and shall be for thy good." D&C 122:5, 7.
"Good?" Some may ask."How will it be for our best?" Our faith must be tested and tested. Just like learning to walk took time and effort, the efforts to understand God's Will for us will take time and persistent effort. We must not give up just before a better understanding of our life's trials appear and become clear.
The unfortunate death of a loved one or the betrayal by a trusted friend will give us a better understanding of human nature. We will be better as we patiently wait upon the Lord's will for us and take each earthly experience as a blessing in disguise.
