D&C 42
Posted On 11/03/2009 18:01:01 by HTBlog

Section 42 of the Doctrine and Covenants has the title, “The law”, not all of the sections of this book have specific titles, but only when the Lord specified that they should have titles.   This section is unique in that it is a composite revelation that was received in two parts, the first have was given on February 9th 1831 and the second part on February 23rd.    Something that I learned also is that this section gives us great insight into how the prophet received revelation, from Excerpts from Grant Underwood, “’The Laws of the Church of Christ’ (D&C 42): A Textual and Historical Analysis,” in The Doctrine and Covenants: Revelations in Context, eds. Andrew H. Hedges, J. Spencer Fluhman and Alonzo L. Gaskill (Provo and Salt Lake City: Religious Studies Center, Brigham Young University and Deseret Book, 2008), 110.  From this we learn that the first half of section 42 was given in response to five specific questions that were asked of the Lord.  I do not know if this means that this is how a lot of the revelations were given but I think that it is possible.  I think that this is just amazing; it is a testimony builder for me that the Lord really is aware of us and He can and will communicate with us.  I too can receive revelation to the questions I have and I know He will answer.
