Number Three. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by the living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson.

God has called prophets in the latter-day just as he did of old. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by the living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson (16th President of the Church [counting Joseph Smith as the 1st]). At the twice a year General Conference that is held, members of the Church raise their hands to sustain their prophet. Prophets testify of Jesus Christ and His Atonement. The living prophet teaches us what Jesus Christ would have us know and do in the current time we live in. Members of the Church believe that following the counsel of the prophet will keep us spiritually and temporally safe from the Adversary, help us in the challenges we face in this mortal world, and lead us in returning home to live with our Father in heaven.

The following two links are the talks President Monson gave at the most recent General Conference. It will give you an idea of how the church is being instructed at the present day:

Article of Faith 5 “We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.”

Article of Faith 9 “We believe all that God has revealed, all that he does now reveal, and we believe that he will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the kingdom of God.”

Alma 12:28-30 “And after God had appointed that these things should come unto man, behold, then he saw that it was expedient that man should know concerning the things whereof he had appointed unto them; Therefore he sent angels to converse with them, who caused men to behold of his glory. And they began from that time forth to call on his name; therefore God conversed with men, and made known unto them the plan of redemption, which had been prepared from the foundation of the world; and this he made known unto them according to their faith and repentance and their holy works.”

Moroni 7:20-32 “And now, my brethren, how is it possible that ye can lay hold upon every good thing? . . . God knowing all things . . . he sent angels to minister unto the children of men, to make manifest concerning the coming of Christ; and in Christ there should come every good thing. And God also declared unto prophets, by his own mouth, that Christ should come. And behold, there were divers ways that he did manifest things unto the children of men, which were good; and all things which are good cometh of Christ . . . Wherefore, by the ministering of angels, and by every word which proceeded forth out of the mouth of God, men began to exercise faith in Christ; and thus by faith, they did lay hold upon every good thing; and thus it was until the coming of Christ. And after that he came men also were saved by faith in his name . . . Wherefore, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased because Christ hath ascended into heaven, and hath sat down on the right hand of God, to claim of the Father his rights of mercy which he hath upon the children of men? For he hath answered the ends of the law, and he claimeth all those who have faith in him . . . my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased? Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men. For behold, they are subject unto him, to minister according to the word of his command, showing themselves unto them of strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness. And the office of their ministry is to call men unto repentance, and to fulfil and to do the work of the covenants of the Father, which he hath made unto the children of men, to prepare the way among the children of men, by declaring the word of Christ unto the chosen vessels of the Lord, that they may bear testimony of him. And by so doing, the Lord God prepareth the way that the residue of men may have faith in Christ, that the Holy Ghost may have place in their hearts, according to the power thereof; and after this manner bringeth to pass the Father, the covenants which he hath made unto the children of men.”

Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servant the prophets.”

Exodus 33:11 “And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.”

1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets . . .”

Ephesians 2:19-20 “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.”

Matthew 16:15-19 “He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered . . . my Father which is in heaven [has revealed it unto thee] . . . upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Doctrine & Covenants 84:36 “For he that receiveth my servants receiveth me;”

Doctrine & Covenants 21:1-6 “Behold, there shall be a record kept among you; and in it thou shalt be called a seer, a translator, a prophet, an apostle of Jesus Christ, an elder of the church through the will of God the Father, and the grace of your Lord Jesus Christ . . . which church was organized and established in [April 6, 1830]. Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me; For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith. For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; yea, the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to shake for your good and his name’s glory.”
