34 Wo unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.
Quotes for Discussion
Lying
A lie is any communication given to another with the intent to deceive.
Marvin J. Ashton, CR, April 1982, p. 10
“In the telestial world…are they who are liars,…and adulterers” (D&C 76:98, 103).
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him; a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren”(Proverbs 6:16-19). In a list of seven things God hates, lying is listed twice.

Yet there are some in our midst who are not so much concerned about taking the gospel into the world as they are about bringing worldliness into the gospel.

Of course, the "hell" referenced here is not Outer Darkness, but the spirit prison hell. All those who sin and do not repent of their sins will be cast into hell until they've "paid" for those sins. D&C 19 tells us that the way we pay for the sins is repentance, and that until we pay, we must suffer even as Jesus did in Gethsemane, sweating blood from every pore.
Alma's conversion can show us just how difficult the experience of spiritual hell is. He explained to his son, Helaman, that there was no pain as exquisite as what he experienced, until he was ready to fully and truly repent of his iniquities. Upon repenting, he was whisked away from torment, thrust OUT of hell, and into paradise (Alma 36).
