abqfriend, I agree with much of what you said, and would like to add some food for thought:

Alma 7: 12
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

2. Hope through the Atonement of Jesus Christ - Elder Neal A. Maxwell - G.C. Oct. 1998 - Hope through the Atonement of Jesus Christ

Through the enabling and strengthening power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ people can overcome or bear(To hold up; support, to withstand stress, difficulty, or attrition) ALL infirmities (A bodily ailment or weakness; a failing or defect in a person's character) they face.
Anyone who's battling anything that seems too much to bear or deal with, any confusion, emotional/mental issues, self-esteem, lack of faith,... well,.... anything... I strongly recommend a careful reading of these address. They are life changing!

Good nite my friends!
