Barry Bickmore has a chapter on ancient baptisms for the dead in his book,
Restoring the Ancient Church. It is available online at fairlds.org for free viewing.
The Eastern Orthodox, as I understand it, still have baptism for the dead as a tenet, however it is no longer practiced nor actively taught.
