I had a close family member go to jail when he was young.

Honestly, it was the best thing that could happen to him. When he stopped blaming his situation on others, he ended up going and getting a good job.

He now has a wonderful wife, has been married for 10 years and a wonderful daughter. This could be the best thing ever for him.

However, if all he's been doing is smoking pot, I wouldn't hang my hopes on him being remanded to a facility. There's no evidence pot is addictive, which is far less than can be said for alcohol and tobacco. Usually, people do it when they're bored or rebellious.
