It would be better than ebay for a few limited items. ebay is so overloaded with scrapbook items, my auctions tend to get lost in the mix, even at really low prices. If you're selling church items or items that those who go to deseretbook.com would be interested in, it's a good place to start. It's pretty simple auction software, so there are some things you can't do there, such as have a dutch and buy it now in the same auction.
If you are selling books, CDs, DVDs, or other media, even church related, I would suggest selling them on amazon.com. I've done really well there and sold quite a bit of lds related media too. Just get all of your items together and list them all at once. Sign up for the seller account where you pay $19.99 a month for the first two months, and sell everything you can in those two months. (After that it goes up to $39.99 a month.) If you don't sign up for that account, you pay $1.00 per auction won. I like amazon because you don't pay anything unless your item sells.
Everything else, I always list on eBay. It's a great alternative to having a garage sale, and far more profitable.
