i don't think it affects you one bit if you aren't drinking it or telling someone they should drink it. i was a c-store manager for over 20 years. didn't keep me from geting a temple rec or getting married in the temple.

I manage a c-store and we sell beer. I don't upsell beer or suggest it. Just sell it when they bring it to the counter.

Honestly, if the job makes you uncomfortable, you may want to keep submitting applications to other companies while you are working at the liquor store temporarily. Although you are not drinking or forcing others to drink, your sole job is to provide others the opportunity to do so.
Depending on your personal set of values (we are talking about purely personal feelings here), you may or may not feel that you should keep this job. If it becomes something that stands between you and the Lord, you should leave. On the other hand, while you do this job for the moment, it may help you to pay tithing and demonstrate faith in that way. In a broader sense, it sounds to me like you could improve your career prospects with some type of education or training. Consider attending a Stake Employment Night in your area - many stakes have them weekly. You can also contact an employment specialist through the Church's employment page: LDS.org - Employment Best of luck.

I know a member that worked as a bar-tender, his stake president told him just as long as it isn't a temptation for him to drink, he'll be alright.
That being said.if you have any further concerns then maybe you should consult your Bishop or Stake President. Last edited by xXTekXx; 06-26-2008 at 10:56 PM. |

Wow what a relief!!! I dont like achol but its a great job (benefits and such) and its the only thing i've been offered. They asked me to taste the wine though. It was my frist day so i asked if i could spit it out. They said yes!! Thank the lord. They just wanted me to be able to describe the flavor (dry) I expressed that I would prefer to read up on the wines and what the quality control people say is the falvour lol. They seem to be just fine with that. So i feel much MUCH better now.
And I didnt know that the church had employment nights thats just WONDERFUL. i think i'll check it out. ![]() |

Really? I was thinking about getting a part-time job as a bar maid but my husband was dead against it. He said 'obviously thats a no-no'. I said why, its in the evenings, u can get tips and its not like id be drinking. Dont see it as any different to working in a film-rental place or a shop-I worked in a newsagents and sold cigarettes so whats the difference?

Well, having a job with benefits is certainly better than not having one! Especially after you have been looking for a time. And I am happy that you feel that sense of relief as you move forward.
I hope this isn't where you land though. I hope it is only a stepping stone that will lead you to desire something better. From the little that you have posted, I feel sincere righteous desire in you. Working at this place will not be good for you in the long run. If you were one of my close relatives or friends, I would invite you to move to a better place where some measure of the Spirit could be felt. I would tell you that you are better than that and deserve better than that too. That you don't need to be taste testing alcohol to make a secure living. And that God can bring you to something better IF you place yourself in the ways of obedience. Just my two cents...... Congrats on the job. But don't stay there. God can do better for you. He can do stuff like moving mountains and parting seas. Finding a job for you? Cake walk! Much love. |

So i'm going to keep it and work until i find something better. I just dont have many skills. I want to go back to college..but that involves money ...so i have to work to get money LOL
