Between a diamond and a hard spot..
I've been having issues at work (people not following military procedures) and as a result I've been working straight 12 hour days 4 days a week with no lunch breaks. I tend not to complain about it because I am state side and not getting shot at (big plus) and I also get a 3 day weekend. My wife dosn't like this because my supervisor and my lower ranking coworker don't even begin to pull thier weight (my low ranking coworker also thinks he runs the shop) and encourage me to comprimise my ethic by cutting corners, taking long lunches and leaving early. I am having a real hard time with this because if I go along with it I'll have lots more family time, but things will not be done right. On the other hand if I do what I think is right my family looses out on time with me (right now my wife is fairly mad at me because this is my shore duty and I just completed 4 years of sea time). Thanks for your time yall.

Pull rank. Make the guy not pulling his weight do more. Unless he is your commanders pet, then you just out of luck.
And be glad your not working the panama schedule.

Ugh. I remember when they put my husband on 16 hour shifts in the Air Force. Someone said, "That must be good with all the overtime." I said, "I wish!" We were dirt poor then and he couldn't work a side job because of the long hours he was working there.
I'm not sure how to handle your situation, but I'll ask a few military guys I know.

I agree with "Do What Is Right". Otherwise, where do you draw the line in compromising your values?

Not sure I agree. The job is not completely your responsibility. As an employer, I know whos slacking the minute things dont get done right. If the job is getting done, I usually dont have the time to look closer and see who is doing what, etc. Remember what the church says, family comes first. And since Im self employed, it makes it really difficult for me to go home, knowing problems may still exsist at work. I have the following quote posted at my desk
"A man should never neglect his family for business" Walt Disney
Somehow I never notice it until about 430-5 o'clock! Pack up and go home.

Can't you pull rank?
