I never said it wasn't useful or valuable, but it is a craze and that's why I don't want one.

X, I'm a programmer, so I've been through many "crazes" before. Back in 1981, I begged my dad to send me to BASIC programming class for the summer (very expensive at that time). He refused to do so because he said computers were just a "craze", the impression he deduced after the onset of the video games. I couldn't even ask him for my own computer! He would have had a coronary! I had to pay my way through programming classes until today, almost 20 years later, my dad can look back and realize, hey, she actually built a nice career out of it!

Then in the early-90's, I was a mainframe programmer at the time, I sent a request to my boss to pay for web-training because we might just start using internet technology to run our IT. He rejected the request because internet was just a "craze".

Now comes the iPhone. I have to tell you, I got into the iPhone big-time because of the developer's kit. And I will tell you, this is not a "craze". No sir. This is the future of information technology. You may not appreciate the inner workings of the iPhone, not being a techie - but for us techies, man, it is exciting. I'm back in college taking a master's degree. One of my classes is human-computer interaction - the biggest challenge of which is how to implement HCI rules (e.g. ergonomic standards, etc.) on an information-rich device less than 4.5 by 2.5 inches.

well... I meant a craze more in the sense of being extremely popular and something everyone wants. I'd definitely agree that similar technology is going to keep going and continue to get better. just saying... the iPhone isn't the only thing that can do what it can, generally, so I'll go with other brands.

I understand what you mean, xforeverxmetalx.

A friend of mine is an Apple junkie. Doesn't matter what it is, if it's made by Apple, it's a MUST have. Her whole family is hooked up with iPhones, macbooks and other Apple knickknacks. So, in that sense, yes there is a crazed frenzy for it. I don't have anything against Apple but for gaming I'm not interested in a Mac - I'll stick with PC :] I am debating in getting an iPod as a Christmas stocking stuffer for the hubby though.

I love the iPhone, but I hate how AT&T charges a bazillion dollars if you want one- $40+ for the voice, $30 for data, $5 for a few txt msgs- it adds up rapidly.

I appreciate that. But I assumed by you saying "it's a craze" you implied its a craze without good cause, which it isn't. I know in your OP you specified no iPhones, but if the reason was simply not to go along with the crowd I was trying to attempt to convince you otherwise, as I do believe its best to get the right device for the job, as opposed to what everyone else is or isn't doing. However we all have our own needs and if the iPhone isn't right for the job then at least my posts can go someway to helping to decide that

well thanks, but it doesn't matter anyway since iPhone isn't available for Verizon.

I recently bought a BB Storm, unlocked it to T-Mobile and installed the newest 5.0.0.328 software on it. I have been a BB person since I bought my first one back in 2004 (7100t, Pearl, Curve and now Storm). I have liked all of the ones that I have had in the past, but this one blows them all away as far as multimedia goes. I also really like the Bold, but I couldn't pass up the deal on the Storm.

So either the Bold or the Storm are my suggestions. Not to mention that they are awesome for email (if that matters to you).

I do have my Curve still. It's locked to T-Mobile, but you can have it unlocked if you'd like. I would only give it a 4/10 cosmetically, but it works great. It's the one that has wi-fi built in. I'd let it go for like $30.
