Just wondering if there are others here that have to travel alot? How do you deal with life on the road?

Eating? I tend to eat at the bar as it is just sad sitting at a big empty table, lol

Hotel life? I use the workout rooms alot to stay busy.

Site seeing? Not to into it but overseas I will but not real fun alone.

Any others out there??

I travel a great deal but not a lot in the last year. There are several things I do while on the road.

Eating: Depends on where I am. I like to try new things - especially in the East (Japan and Tiawan are my favorites). I like to eat where the locals eat. I avoid bars - I like speciality places. I try to spend all I am allowed for food. I try to find the missionaries and take them to dinner at least once while I am somewhere. Sometime, when I have time I will go with them to an apointment in the evenings. In foreign countries this always goes over well.

Church: I make it a point to attend all meetings where ever I go even though I may not speak the language. To this day some local members in Japan think I am one of the 3 Nephits. Communication glitch.

Hotel life: I have made it a point to cast out unclean spirits and bless my room as soon as I have pravicy in my room. I have come to believe this is of prime importance while traveling.

Site seeing - I love to go to out of the way places - walks along a beach or in mountains. I make this a point of importance. I also try to make contact (friends) with locals asking for places to shop or eat.

I also often take a family member with me. If a family member is coming I will contact the bishop in advance and get a hold of a member to show my wife (or one of my kids) around. When this does not work I ask for help from people where I'll be working. My family has come to love coming with me.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Interesting thoughts, sounds like you are blessed with a little more free time than I have out there. I would love to check out the area Wards when out but have had to work every
weekend so far.
I like the idea of blessing the room would have never thought of that. And getting to take someone with you, how cool is that!

Enjoy the life!

I used to travel EVERY week before I got married. I loved it and really took advantage of experiencing each place I went to. If traveling multiple weeks, I would even do a weekend stay and get a cash bonus to save the company on airfare. That would give me money to do cool things wherever I went.

For example, when I spent time in Orlando I went to all the theme parks... yes, alone... but it was better than sitting in the hotel room.

When I went to Dallas/Ft Worth, I went to the oldest saloon and had a beer after work one day. (Now THAT was wierd with all the 'real' cowboys staring at me with my business dress and heels!)

When in L.A. went to Hollywood, Fisherman's Wharf in San Fran, Grouse Mtn when in Vancouver, etc. etc. etc.

I say take advantage of it. I wouldn't have been able to see all those places if I hadn't taken that job. And when I got tired of all the traveling and I was ready to settle down and get married, I found another job.

Of course, being a female, I couldn't bless my hotel rooms! But somehow I managed to stay safe.

I used to work for a major hotel chain and I heard all the tricks. Do not sit around in the hotel room, you won't get any exercise and you'll get fat and depressed. Instead of using the workout room, go for a jog around the block, get some fresh air. Don't eat at the hotel restraunt, go experience your surroundings. Don't watch the movies, not only is it expensive, it's a complete waste of time. One guy I talked to would get one forums like this for frequent travelers and they would have discussions about our hotels and the service he got and what people did around the area he was in. These guys hit the nail right on the head, just follow their advise. Good luck, man!
