So, I work at a payday loan place and a 48 year old man (26 yrs my senior) came in and was hitting on me while I was helping him. No problem right, well, it wasn't until he came back drunk as a skunk and solicited me 5 times to leave with him. I of course told him no and no again and again and then asked him to leave. He told me I was racisit (he's black and I'm white) I shot it right back at him and told him I wasn't and the reason's I was declining him is because of his age, I'm mormon, don't drink, smoke etc... He had his buddy come and and told him that it was his turn to talk to me...well, he didn't say anything...he was drunk too. I declined him yet again and he said he was going to come and visit me at work. Well, the whole thing started to freak me out so I called the police to escort me to my car after I closed. Well, when the police came they told me that they had picked him up. Now I'm worried that he's going to come back and harasse me! What am I supposed to do? My parents think I need to quit my job and find a new one in a better area. I can't keep calling the police! What should I do!?!? HELP!!

I suppose you could always carry a good post with you. jk
I guess the deciding factor for me would be whether I liked the job or not and the availablity of jobs with equal or better pay in safer areas; also if that job is something you plan on for long term. But I would give it more time and see if Buckwheat comes around again.
But if you really like working there, perhaps, if it is possible, when he comes around, see if you can go do something in the back while a less attractive person takes your place. And perhaps that person could tell him that you no longer work there.
Just remember, if you feel threatened, it's not worth getting beat up or losing your life over.

Instead of a police escort, you could have a friend or family member meet you at closing time. Even if it's inconvenient, they would rather help you with this than have you face danger alone.
I had a job as a teenager in a scary part of town. Whenever work let out after dark, I had a coworker walk me to my car.
If you're at work alone, I'd really consider quitting. If there's always another person there with you, you're much safer.
It certainly can't hurt to look for another job. I'll bet you can find a good one that feels safer.

Charlie, Charlie, you have been MISSED!!!!
I read Buckwheat and took it only to mean "Bozo or Dopey"
Stellati,
I would tell the manager what had happened and see what they will do. If nothing is done to provide a safer workplace, I think you should quit now. The payday loans place can not be what your career goals are. You were smart IMO to call the police. Safety should always be your first priority. If something was to happen to you at work your life would be devastated along with your parents. Your employers’ life on the other hand, would go on as if nothing ever happened. Find a safer workplace today.

I agree! Your safety is important. My daughter had a job where she got off after dark and had a fellow employee walk her out. She was being harrased by someone also. The manager told the person not to return to the store or he would have him arrested. It quit after that but she kept her escort at night. No one has the right to make you feel unsafe or threatened. And that is what the police get paid for. My husband work in a resturatnt as a manager and was held up at gun point one night--he also has had a police escort ever since and that was in a different state years ago.
BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!!!

Thanks, I think I will. I do work alone and I have had the same thought trails as all of the replies. Thanks for the support guys. Just needed to know if I was over reacting. Thanks again!

I think you should watch that "Buckwheat" thing. He is a child of Father, too. You should find a different job.

Actually, if I don't know someone's name and they did something stupid, they automatically become Holmes, or Geeves, or Lemmywinks, or Buckwheat. At least until I find out their name.

I think you should quit, too, but I decided that before I got to your story. Working for a payday loan company is just about the lowest thing a person could legally do, if you ask me. Those places are one of the largest consumer rip-offs known to man. I don't know how anyone with a conscience could do what they do to the people who can least afford to have it done to them. As far as I'm concerned, it's comparable to legal financial rape. So, yes, quit immediately, and find a job you can be proud of, where you can accomplish good things.
