Has anyone ever taken temporary Guardianship over someone's teenage child?

I know someone who is going to do this for a short period of time, a little over a month. The reason for this is this teenager will be living with them and will be hours away from the parents. Is there a better way?

SF.....my nephew lived with us for 3 and one half years.......he was causing alot of problems for my sister and make a long story short my wife and I agreed to take him. I first called our LDS social services here to talk with Church Physcologist and he answered all my questions. I left for Utah the next day or two. I brought him back to Missouri and before I could get him registered for school here I had to go and apply for Guardianship thru the courts and his parents had to sign documents. I had guardianship for 3 yrs legally. Today he is serving his mission in Colorado Springs Mission. After his mission he will go back home to Utah. Also his relationship between he and his Mom is excellent. Hope this helps....if you would like more info just ask....

Hi StrawberryF,

I know you're asking about guardianship (I got that much) but I don't know what you question is. Is there a better way of what? What is the reason for guardianship? What are you specifically looking to find out?

Sorry I wasn't clear.

This teenager will be attending school hours away from her parents. I just wondered of guardianship was necessary in the case of medical attention was needed or something needed to be signed at school etc. It seems a bit extreme for such a short period of time. I also wondered about the legal responsibilities of guardianship.

Palerider,

Wow! It seems that your nephew had a very positive experience under your guidance. Great job with impressive results!

I appreciate you saying that......it was not easy....and he was not forced to serve a mission...he left for his mission 5 months after my son left for his.
