The Secret
Has anyone read "The Secret?" (Author Rhonda Byrne)
I have been studying the subject of "thought" lately. I have found some great talks and quotes (at LDS.org) on the subject but the majority of discussion is related to keeping thoughts clean.
I am interested to know what other LDS members think about thoughts and the "Law of Attraction" as discussed by Rhonda Byrne in "The Secret."

I've read it and hated the book. I found it extremely redundant.

President Spencer W. Kimball, 12th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his book, "Miracle of Forgiveness" quoted Mr. James Allen who wrote, "As a Man Thinketh".
It is an excellent book that helps everyone understand the importance of protecting our thoughts.

But since this thread is about The Secret, have you read it and if so what are your thoughts?

That's why I gave a POSITIVE alternative.
The Byrne book is a waste of time.

law of Attraction
I have also read "As a Man Thinketh" - and enjoyed it.
I do have a different take on the Byrnes book - I agree it is redundant; however, I don't believe it is a complete waste of time.
I happened on the book having never heard anything about it. I had been looking for a book with "inspirational quotes" my husband saw "The Secret" and bought it for me. The book wasn't really what I was looking for, but it did get me thinking - about thoughts.
I understand the concepts taught in church ie. "thoughts- words- deeds." I understand the importance of guarding thougths on a spiritual level, but what about this whole "law of attraction" concept? How does this apply to success/failure/happiness in other areas (work/relationships) of our lives?
I read a great article recently. I found it doing a search on LDS.org
the article is called, The Message: Mind over Matter by Elder Francis M. Gibbons
I love this quote:
"Thought is the father of action - attitudes and outward circumstances will yield to the discipline of the mind."
The article goes on to quote President George Albert Smith:
"When your life is complete in mortality, it will be the sum of your thoughts"
summary:
"... We literally become what we think about." - Elder Francis M. Gibbons
I'd love to hear more of what you all think about thoughts.

I believe that what we think about expands.
I believe if your surround yourself with negativity it will also have an affect on your life.
I believe in seeking out the good.
I have listened to The Secret on audio in the car there were a few distractions but I believe I understand the concept.
I liken this much to how a coach will train his team..... think about the end result (only positive) before you take the ball or run the race etc.

A friend keeps telling me about The Secret. She said there's a movie too and she wants to show it to me. She said it's about how your thoughts affect what happens to you.

The Secert in Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is filled with instances of The Secret principles. Read a short essay that draws parallels between the message of The Secret and the 19th century English novel here The Principles of The Secret in Pride and Prejudice - Human Science - a Wikia wiki
