Default The THIEF on the cross

Luke 23:40
40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

Luke 23:41
41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”

Luke 23:42
42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord,[a] remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

Luke 23:43
43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

According to the LDS doctrine, to which kingdom did the thief go? And, why?

We don't know. Here's the deal: After death, we go to one of two places to await final judgement: Paradise, or spirit prison. We just go to one of these places after we die - but we don't stay there.

So, we know that the thief didn't go to spirit prison, but we don't know what happened at his final judgement before God.

Nobody is exempt from the path. All must follow the Voice of the Lord until they stand in His Presence and His glory is revealed to them. The Second Comforter must be received before entrance into His Glory. That is the pattern of scripture. That is the fullness of the Gospel.

We believe that Christ went to the Spirit Prison and Paradise, and taught the Gospel to the souls that had not received it, and set up a spirit missionary program of sorts, that all who have died and will die shall have a chance to learn of Christ the savior.

Yes, as others stated, Paradise is not a resurrection state, it is a death/spirit state. Paradise is not equivalent to a final judgment at all.

Where did Jesus go? After the day or so visiting and teaching in the spirit world (paradise) with the faithful Saints who had died in all ages before, the Savior returned to the tomb and got his body (resurrected) and had a conversation with Mary. Later Jesus "ascended" to his Father -- I believe Peter and others witnessed this. Where he is now as far as real estate, I cannot say, but he still has his resurrected, glorified body. And I know that he and his Father did meet with Joseph Smith in 1830, and I know that he is leading his Church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).

We know nothing about the life of the thief. Did he steal once? Did he steal a thousand times? Did he steal a loaf of bread to feed his family? Did he run a major scam and scam lots out of their (ancient) life savings? His ability to be humble while on the cross was probably not a singular act. I would have to guess there was at least some kind of preparation for it, for him to be able to recognize his Savior.

When LDS read that promise of paradise, they do not 'hear' a promise of rest and final reward. They 'hear' Jesus say, "You can help me with my work in the spirit world. There is still lots to do for yourself and others."

It is an interesting passage. Thanks for presenting it.

But even Hemi stated Stephen looked into the heavens and saw Jesus at the right hand of the throne,..................... Jesus told the thief he would be with HIm.

Xhenli........... do you really think the one pesron who created this world, who created man and everthing needs help?

So you are saying that depending on the degree of sin, depends on where you go?

Does it matter what the thief did..we know he was a sinner. period. Sin is sin in God's eyes..Sin does not have levels of degree in God's eyes. Sin seperates us from God.

I am laughing so hard right now.and I really should not be..but i can't help it hizwife. I have been apart of this forum for a couple of weeks now asking these very same questions..people like us must drive them crazy because they have to answer these questions over and over and over again..no wonder they get frustrated but it is a good question and must be answered but you might find yourself banging your head against the wall.
