Behaviors & Attitudes: Can they be changed?

What is described below is called repentance.

The gospel of repentance is not very well taught these days.

The power of Repentance is mighty it is what can hold Satan at bay while we are doing this. Anyone who is afflicted or pressed by Satan can break his hold simply by going into Repentance.


BTW did you know that this is the only thing that this church so far has been commanded to preach to the gentiles?

There is power in the word of God; there is power in reading the scriptures. Any behavior, attitude, or inclination, can be changed if the person reading will be humble enough to try!

Almost 2 years ago. Just before I rejoined or became active in the church again.

People can change their attitudes and behaviors, but it's something they have to want.

You are absolutely right Morningstar, the desire has to be there before anything else will be able to help. If we are just trying to change something about our selves for somebody else it will never work out they way we want it to. But if we are changing it for ourselves and ask for help then it becomes easier to over come.

My grandfather made some pretty big changes. He was very stern with his kids for many years and after his son drowned, he cried and told his kids, "I should've hugged and kissed you more." He was a lot more affectionate after that.

Hello everyone,
In order for anyone to change a behavior, it's necessary to realize that, to come to that knowledge, and yes,... desire it as MS said.
Repentance is the first step, along with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ,... then, depending on what the person's battle is, getting help from every possible source is a good idea as abqfriend pointed out as well.
However, we must remember the Savior's Atonment... which is the most powerful & merciful gift we can call upon to help us with our personal battles.
The Savior went below ALL things for us (Things that I won't and/or have not yet experienced in my life), in order to KNOW HOW to came to our rescue!
Going below all things means He took upon Himself ALL infirmities that affect mankind, and ALL sins mankind commits, without sinning Himself.
Taking upon Himself means He experienced the pains, difficulties, struggles, etc. of diseases, grief, pains, etc. cased by one's bad choices or caused by other's bad choices, spiritual infirmities & diseases as well whatever they may be. Taking upon Himself, He felt those things on Him, but doesn't mean He suffered of or did any of those things Himself while He was alive.

We can drawn upon the power, enabling & strengthening power of the Atonement to change something we are dealing with, that positive thinking, and many other good methods to help us be free from are not helping. He KNOWS HOW to succor (Come to our escue) us because He know what we feel, and has the power to enable & strengthen us to either deal with it like Paul, or to deliver us completely!
To enable: to give a person power, to make him/her able to do something, to empower

Elder Bednar's talk was one of the most detailed talk that helps us understand & make use of this wonderful and marvelous gift the Lord gave us!

And it is my testimony that we all can be delivered of any behavior/attitude/circumstance/... that is harmful/bad/foul... through HIS enabling power or strengthened to bear His will on us.
It's a glorious gift from our Savior, and He's intention was to help us... Let's unwrap it and make use of it!

If we have a bar of medal and we hook a wire to each end, and run current through it, the bar of medal becomes a magnet that attracts on one side while the other side repels things. The same is true with us. If we run spiritual current through our bodies in the form of scripture study, spiritual music, obedience, and service then we will attract spiritual things while repelling the things of the world, however, if we run the worldly current through our bodies, then we will attract worldly things while repelling spiritual things. But here is where it gets a little dicey, if we try to run the worldly current through our bodies 165 hours a week and then run the spiritual current through the other 3, then we will be polarized to attract worldly things and repel the spiritual.

Bottom line, there is great power in reading the scriptures in a feasting way.

So very true-there is Power! I find that I have to schedule myself time reading Sacred Scripture or it gets lost in my daily life of other things less important. It is like trying to live your day without your electricity hooked up. I need the direct current of reading Sacred Scripture. Indeed there is Power!
