It was my understanding that written Hebrew does not use vowels, but I could be wrong.

The Hebrew alphabet doesn't have vowels. Instead there is a system of vowel points.

I guide church history tours, and YES, I've been to the branch. We had a special sacrament meeting there after we had a baptism at Yardenit for a little girl back in December! Awesome, awesome experience.
