Default TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY: 07 October

1835 - The Prophet Joseph records that he "recommenced translating the ancient records" that were later known as the Book of Abraham. (History of the Church, 2:289)

1842 - The Prophets wife, Emma, continues to recover from her illness and he records, "I am cheerful and well."

1844 - The Prophets uncle, John Smith, is sustained as the Nauvoo Stake president replacing William Marks who refused to accept the leadership of the Twelve Apostles. Also, George Miller is sustained as Second Bishop of the Church.

1925 - Spencer Adams becomes the first Latter-day Saint to play in the baseball World Series.

1989 - President Hinckley dedicates four restoration projects in Nauvoo, Illinois, as part of the sesquicentennial celebration of the settling of the city in 1839.

2005 - The First Presidency broke ground for a state-of-the-art Church History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, on a site used as a parking lot just east of the Conference Center.
