Default More American Engineering

There is a scientist name Edison (yes he is a descendent of the famous Thomas Edison). He has just been granted a patent for bacteria that has been modified from the bovine intestine. This advanced bacteria is capable of digesting any carbon based organic waist and producing a “light oil” or in other words diesel fuel.

If we just consider the organic waist in land fills that we add each year this bacterium is capable of producing 60% of the fuel we are currently using and all this without adding any additional carbon to the eco system (for the global warming nut cases). With just this and the other technology (solar cells) I previously posted – within 5 years we could end our dependence on foreign oil. Talk about the ultimate recycling dream. And yes it would be cheaper than gas.

BTW did you know that neither of these projects was officially supported by government money? Does that surprise you?

Now if we can just keep corporate America from imposing the latest business model we just might move forward.

Dude, I hope so, but I know it will be ignored as more liberal waffling instead as a legitimate alternative.

It was 2? 3? years ago I read a news article about a company in Washington (state) that had managed to economically produce crude oil #4 from the waste products of a nearby chicken factory. The single plant (IF I remember correctly) could produce 50 barrels of crude a day. Not a lot, but for a single factory running more as a test than as production, that's one helluva start. Of course we don't know what happened to it.....

Or maybe we do? Perhaps the CEO of that company had a nasty accident, or a visit from some intimidating men in dark suits carrying nasty contracts and ball-point pens?

I saw the cover of a magazine on my way out of the office this morning (I work nights) about a possible resurgence in nuclear power - the tag line said something to the effect of "Can Nuclear Energy Save Us From Our Energy Woes? Only If We Can Be Convinced It's Safe". The problem is nuclear energy IS safe. It's safer, cleaner, more efficient, and cheaper than burning coal, but all those cold war left-overs are afraid we'll blow ourselves up. No offense to anyone who grew up during the cold war, I'm just saying fear of nuclear energy is an outdated philosphy.
