"Hostile" Iran Sparks U.S. Attack Plan
"Hostile" Iran Sparks U.S. Attack Plan, Pentagon Wary Of Tehran's Expanding Nuclear Program And Support Of Iraqi Insurgents - CBS News
"Hostile" Iran Sparks U.S. Attack Plan
(CBS) A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf on Tuesday as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the planning is being driven by what one officer called the "increasingly hostile role" Iran is playing in Iraq - smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.

Actually, good news. Something we should of did awhile ago. The purpose you will find in the end, the Russians were planning to ship some materials that will aid the Iranians to finally build that bomb by the summer time 08. Now that the Russians back down, the Israelis are still fearful of this installed puppet leader and unwise decision or path he is heading down.
CIA made some rather interesting calls to a few people in Iran for feedback of such an invasion and wanted to know their feelings. What turned out is the people themselves do not like the one-rule theocratic government.
If anything, being on top of world events is a plus.

Actually, I'm sure the US government has plans for attacking not only Iran, but Alaska and Mars as well. Not to mention defending against attacks from space aliens, rabid marmots, and cartoon characters.

That is considered being on top of world events? No reputable source claims that Iran will even be close to a nuclear weapon in 2008.
The IAEA issued a report on the implementation of safeguards in Iran on February 22, 2008. With respect to the report, IAEA Director Mohammad ElBaradei stated that "We have managed to clarify all the remaining outstanding issues, including the most important issue, which is the scope and nature of Iranīs enrichment programme" with the exception of a single issue, "and that is the alleged weaponization studies that supposedly Iran has conducted in the past." The February 2008 IAEA report also states that the Agency has "not detected the use of nuclear material in connection with the alleged studies, nor does it have credible information in this regard."( IAEA:IRAN IN FOCUS)
According to the United States National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) Iran halted its nuclear weapons program four years ago. ( NIE REPORT)
You would think that following the Iraq War, which was based on the false premise of WMD's, people would show some restraint before jumping on the WMD bandwagon again. Especially considering IAEA President Dr. El Baradei has repeatedly said: "We do not have data indicating to us that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons." ( link) Even according to U.S. intelligence reports Iran halted work toward a nuclear weapon under international scrutiny in 2003. ( link)
Mind you, the U.S. has, against Anti-Proliferation Treaties, armed Israel with nuclear weapons. Also, Iran has a legal right under IAEA treaties to develop nuclear energy.
Here at home the U.S. has refused to keep any commitments of nuclear disarmament; the U.S pulled out of the ABM treaty, refused to support ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, and is breaking the Non-proliferation Treaty by sharing nuclear technology with India and Israel. All while the IAEA has found no evidence Iran has broken Non-proliferation Treaty promises.
If you want to talk about puppet governments, read a history book. The U.S. overthrew the democratically elected administration of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq and his cabinet in 1953. It re-installed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, replacing an elected government with a pro-Western dictatorship.

The military maintains thousands of response plans for pretty much any scenario imaginable...including attacks on Iran and defending against evil alien stinkbugs.

Wasn't mosaddeq pro western and democratic? I read his intentions were to nationalize their oil fields. Removing them from the big corporates control.
