Default Gun rights decision from SCOTUS

I'm a happy camper today. The SCOTUS released their decision on the DC Gun ban - it is unconstitutional.

Even better, the court held that the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms is an individual right, not a collective/militia thing only.

Here is a link to the 157 page opinion if anyone's interested.

I'm grateful for this decision, as it preserves my right to defend myself and my family.

I'm glad. We need to protect our Bill of Rights as together they all serve to protect us. If one is taken away, it is easier to take another away and so on. It's like a bunch of straws bound together. It's easy to break them when there are only one or two, but when many are together working together synergistically, they can not easily be broken. I hope the supreme courts will always judge wisely and that our presidents always choose wise supreme court judges. If we elect a liberal president, a liberal president will select liberal judges and exercise their judgments liberally.

I am happy somewhat with the outcome but overall it's not the win we hoped for.

First off the very fact that they had to decide this case should scare every single American that believes in the Bill of Rights. Then take into the fact that the final vote was 5-4 really is troubling.

However in the ruling, the majority made clear that it is ok to put limits on firearms and limits on the ability to care them. The made too many references to home defense when it is about our defense in general (in particular from the govt) no matter where we are.

So while outright bans might be harder to get now, heavy regulation will be just dandy and I expect to see a lot of those. While some regulation is fine IMO, any regulation which gets in the way of the right to keep AND bear arms is unconstitutional.

Unfortunately, four of the justices just don't seem to get it...but then again, they can have all the protection they want just for the asking. I guess if you can "hire it done" (to quote the Duke in "El Dorado"), then you can pretend that no one else needs to have a firearm to protect themselves and their families.

A 5 to 4 decision is only as good as whoever gets elected president this November and places new justices on the court. There are going to be vacancies for both liberal and conservative justices. Remember this when you vote.

Perhaps, it is time to reduce justice serving a 8-year bench vice life...and no retirement. How many would easily signed up?

This should be good news for the citizens of New York City, as well as Washington DC. There is no reason they should not be armed with heavy ordinance. If mindless mayhem and a bit of the old ultra-violence are required to restore sanity, then what the heck... I will not be visiting anytime soon.*

*BTW, I disavow any knowledge of this paragraph.

That movie would have been a heck of a lot shorter if just one of their victims had been packing.
