The state is replacing all of them ASAP and we are talking about major $$$ to do so. $$$ that citizens could have kept or money that could have gone to schools, instead it is being blown on new signs so this nazi woman does not get offended. Even if they had fazed it in over time as the signs wore out and were replaced, that would have been a logical and reasonable change... but oh no, that was not good enough.
Wait, what!? Please, that can't possibly be true. What's it gonna be changed to? People at work? >.<

An example of monies spent (wasted) on really stupid things!
But seeing as how the signs are going to be changed, instead of
~~~~People At Work~~~ maybe they could simply say...
~~~ Work In Progress.

Could anyone, male or female or even dog or cat have ANY objections to that????

i believe ours say "workers present" lol

when my mom was a single mom of two kids and looking for work to support them she learned how much road workers earned. far more than she could earn as a waitress which was about the only job avaliable for a woman that hadn't gone to school to be a nurse or something. she thought, i can hold a stop sign. so she went and applied for the job. she was denied for 2 reasons. 1, she'd distract the workers; 2, she was taking a good job from a man that had a family to support. she explained she had kids to support as well, she was told to get married. my how times have changed. she was also denied state help with child care not due to income she definately fit in that catagory but because she wasn't black.

though some ppl are very very stupid it's a good thing times have changed.

I think, on some level, even the most rabid, hypersensitive wolf crier knows exactly how ridiculous this is, but they do it to draw attention, and it works every time.

In a way, they're sort of taking advantage of the people who are NOT racist who sincerely do want to be careful not to be offensive in their speech. Something like this comes up and sure, everybody knows how ridiculous it is but the hypersensitive (who isn't really sensitive at all) knows those on the "other side" won't be quick to speak out precisely because they will take a moment to stop and think about it, and that's where they lose their momentum.

This is how people get away with that sort of nonsense.

I have NEVER caved in. I still say "mankind", "mailman", "chairman"...etc.

Woman
Women

How can some people get upset about the most pointless things?

If we truly want to make a stand on something serious, we need to boycott the pronunciation of the state "Arkansas". Why do we say Ar-Kin-Saw...there is NO "w" in it, and if we say Kansas (Kan-sas) then why does it change for Arkansas?????

There, that is something that we should truly make a stand on!!!!!!

"When words lose their meaning, people will soon lose their liberties." (Confucius, ca 600 BC)

What better way to destroy rights than to make the case that you are harming another's rights? Of course, it is true that one should not exercise a right to harm another's rights *if* that latter right is a genuine right - often it is not.

For example, one method is for the powers that be to endow special "rights" upon certain groups (disabled, homosexual, etc.) and reinforce it through the constant use of PC. This is plainly ridiculous - people have the same rights regardless of their situation, state or condition (self-imposed or otherwise). Rights do not change. They are inherent and inalienable.

I believe in discrimination. To discriminate means 'to perceive differences, distinguish (between)'. Discrimination is defined as 'capacity for discriminating; ability to perceive subtle differences; perception.' Although not in this dictionary, 'discernment' might be another word I could add.

Without discrimination our society will fail.

If you can, I would urge all to get hold of a 4-page essay entitled "Discrimination and Equality: An Essay on the Misuse of Words" by Geoffrey Dobbs (1968, UK). - interestingly I cannot find this short essay online, either in whole or even as a reference! (well, there's one reference but that was the last time I mentioned it on the Net. lol.)

Here is a quotation from it:

Quote:
"The debasement of our language, and especially of all those words with which we refer to that which is good and true in life, is one of the chief methods used in the corruption of our thoughts and of our society...'Stupid and ignorant prejudice about race' and 'lack of racial discrimination' are simply two phrases describing the same thing, so that to brainwash people, and especially the young, with the idea that 'racial discrimination' is a monstrous and wicked thing, is the most effective way possible to ensure a growing ignorance of each other, and hence lack of understanding between the races, leading to active hostility and ultimately that violence and anarchy which are the essential prerequisites for the establishment of the Police State."
And here is another essay (this time from an American) about PC and its nature and origins I would commend to all:

The Origins of Political Correctness

It breaks my heart to see the youth in my own Church repeating the brainwashed phrases they've learn at school and from government, media, etc.
