The Iranians would have to be stupid to attack the United States. They've got to realize that the U.S. would respond, and they wouldn't have a chance against us. The U.S.S.R. was much stronger than Iran is, and it wouldn't directly attack the U.S., probably because of "Mutually Assured Destruction." Of course, the Iranians could "accidentally" allow nuclear weapons and missiles to fall into the hands of terrorists, and claim not to be responsible. That's a very dangerous game to play, though.

Iran has carried out missile tests for what could be a plan for a nuclear strike on the United States, the head of a national security panel has warned.
The source claiming that Iran is planning a nuclear strike on the US is not from US Intelligence but from the Claremont Institute, a conservative think tank.

Here is a real report for you:

The United States National Intelligence Estimate: Iran halted work toward a nuclear weapon under international scrutiny in 2003. (link)
Quote:
A declassified summary of the latest National Intelligence Estimate found with "high confidence" that the Islamic republic stopped an effort to develop nuclear weapons in the fall of 2003.

Rize, you're missing a few relevant items found in that estimate.

It also admits that US intelligence does not know whether Iran intends to develop nuclear weapons. It might or it might not - this report doesn't know one way or the other. It does figure that "Iran probably would be technically capable of producing enough HEU [highly enriched uranium] for a weapon sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame" if it chose to do so.

I don't think Iran is any sort of military threat to any state, and I don't think they're as close to nukes as they claim (implicitly or explicitly). However, they are certainly a current threat to be reckoned with, due to their ability to shut down the Strait of Hormuz for a time. And even though we all figure they couldn't hit the broad side of a camel with one of their self-destructing jokes of missles, they are rattling sabers and making threats. And most of us will not tolerate a US government that ignores those sabers or threats. That's how it works.

I hearken back to the good old days when everyone, no matter what side of what fence they sat on, could agree that nuclear proliferation was a bad thing and should be stopped.

Perhaps I am wrong here but doesn't the D&C say that a country has no right to attack another country unless the country has crossed the line, been given the chance to repent, crossed the line again and still refuses to act peaceful?

That being the case we have no right to attack Iran.

One EMP at, say, 300 miles up--- and that's all she wrote, for the USA. We're down to pistols and clubs.

Could that not make it "counter" intelligence in the truest sense? Sort of like a Pat Robertson revelation?
